Flora and Fauna: | There is a wide variety of plant and
animal life in SNP. Whitetail deer are extremely common. There
are also a number of black bear in the park, although they
are relatively shy.
Each season has something new to offer.
In spring look for early wildflowers and flowering shrubs
like rhododendron and mountain laurel. Fall is also a very colorful time of year as
the changing leaves put on an impressive show.
Fall is also a good time to observe bird migrations. Several areas
of the park offer excellent birdwatching opportunities

General Info.: | SNP has 4 entrances. All connect to Skyline
Drive, which is the road that travels the length of the park. The
entrances are:
- Front Royal (mile post 0)
- Thorton Gap - US 211 (mile post 31.5)
- Swift Run - US 33 (mile post 65.5)

Special Notes: | Fall is one of the most popular times of
the year in SNP and Skyline Drive can become very crowded. Since
many tourists enter at the northern end of the park (Front Royal)
it may be less crowded to enter at one of the other entrances.
Better yet, enter from the southern entrance and work your way
North. |
