A New Approach

Hello, fellow students, my name is Omane DiMorte, and I will be posting my own original stories here. The first one is thriller. E-mail me at the_magic_in_your_eyes@yahoo.com to tell me what you think about it. I'm also taking a poll to find out your favorite topic for a story. (i.e. fantasy, horror, action, etc.)

The Magistrate's Wife

His boot felt empty without the knife in it. He'd known that throwing it into the woods after that noise had been a bad idea. Especially when it had turned out to be only a chipmunk scouring for leftover food for the winter.

Now, he was left out in the woods by himself without any protection.

His name was Jeremiah Backer and he claimed that he couldn't be scared. Until a group of boys cared him to go into the Halloway Cemetary in the middle of the Jamestown Forest. It was supposed to be haunted by the old mayor's wife... and more.

A century ago, as most tales go, the mayor's wife was discovered performing evil witchcraft and was stripped of her wand. To keep things quiet, the mayor, or magistrate, had a private execution on the spot the cemetary was now.

Three years passed and, along with the time, people disappeared. Mostly children for the first few months. When Magistrate Miller decided to create the cemetary, however, more disappearances ban to occur. They stopped after a few years... until this very night. Gravediggers, caretakers, and the occasional dumb kid have fallen victim to the cemetary.

Jeremiah was to take one of the flowers by the grave stone in the center. No one knew if someone replaced the flowers every so often, but the roses never wilted. It was the old witch's grave, herself.

The boys who had dared Jeremiah to pick a rose were waiting in anticipation for his return. Of course, they weren't going to follow the boy in. They weren't quite that stupid.

Cursing himself under his breath, Jeremiah looked desperately for the cemetary, or at least some way out. He saw a light swinging ahead of him, relieved.

"A lantern!" he whispered. "Another person, at last!"

He ran in the direction of the light yelling, "Hey! Hey you! Could you show me the way out? I'm lost!"

In response, the light began to flicker as it move away. Jeremiah followed it, hoping for the person to lead him to fresh air.

The trees grew farther apart as they went and the boy's hopes rose. That is until he found that the light, that had now disappared, had led him into the heart of the old Halloway Cemetary.

The light reappeared at Jeremiah's elbow and the boy looked up, only to have his horrified screams pierce the crisp, night air.

How'd you like it? I seriously almost didn't finish it. I don't react very well with fright. I have goosebumps when I write things like this piece. So e-mail me and tell me what you think. C-y-a!

An Essay by
Hermione Granger of Ravenclaw

Hogwarts was founded over a thousand years ago (the precise date is uncertain) by the four greatest witches and wizards of the age. The four school houses are named after them: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin.

They built a castle together (which is now the school), far from prying Muggle eyes, for it was feared by common people, and witches and wizards suffered much persecution.

For a few years, the founders worked in harmony together, seeking out youngsters who showed signs of magic and bringing them to the castle to be educated. But then disagreements sprang up between them.

A rift began to grow between Slytherin and the others. Slytherin wished to be more selective about students admitted to Hogwarts. He believed that magical learning should be kept within all-magic families. He disliked taking students of Muggle parentage, believing them to be untrustworthy. After a while, there was a serious argument on the subject between Slytherin and Gryfinndor, and Slytherin left the school.

But the school still is successful and all the four houses have remained. Even though there is a twist to Slytherin students.

After Hogwarts had been settled and the four founders were still working together, they sorted students into houses themselves. How they did it is still a mystery to this day.

They knew they would not live forever, so they found a regular wizard's hat, put magical brains in it, and from then on it sorted students into houses.

It was bewitched to go into the mind of the person wearing it and pick out the little details that would build their personality as they grow. Then had to decide if they were basically brave, loyal, witty, or wanted power.

From this day, every year the sorting hat sorts all students of Hogwarts from when it was born, and sing songs as a performance for the first years, and explain what they must do. Since it is so bored during the rest of the year, it makes up brand new songs each year to entertain 2nd years and up.

In the years that followed, after the four founders were long gone and it was the turn of the 20th century, some muggle-born students brought "lap-tops" and "radioes" to cheat on exams, listen to music, and talk to each other from opposite ends of the school.

After a few years, a boy by the name of Derrick Nunswiz and his friends were caught giving each other answers to a major exam. All of them recieved major suspension, and the headmaster declared that all electronic devices be banned from the school grounds, because many other students were caught too.

But much earlier, 7th years who learned how to apparate, would do so before exams came and go home, missing the last few weeks of their life at Hogwarts. The teachers thought this was horrible because they missed their last precious weeks of exams, and haven't become a 100% trained wizard, only 99.9%.

So the teachers found it best to ban apparation, so no students or teachers could leave, and unwelcome vistors could arrive.

New Breeds

There has been an all new discovery in animal breeds! This new creature that was discovered two weeks ago is a hybrid between a unicorn and a dragon. The Ministry has decided to call it a Unigorn. I traveled to the Ministry of Magic and got to take a look at this new rare species. Probably one of the most beautiful creatures alive! They had, in fact, four of these remarkable species. Their names are: Abner, Oh-Zam-Ah, Phyor, and Jezmaitha.

What might these creatures look like?, you might ask. Well here is the answer!

All of them are about a foot long, with a wingspan of about 1 ½ feet! Very tiny creatures. Although they are still only babies. It is estimated that by the time they are adults, the Unigorns should be about 3 feet long, with a wingspan of about 4 feet!

Abner: This feisty little Unigorn has golden scales that slowly change to a metallic black. He is still too small to fly and if you get down to it… too small to even work his wings! He has four legs that are about ½ foot long and are covered in short, golden hairs. And if you were to look at his head, you would see a small stub on the top of it. By the time he is an adult, his horn should be about ½ foot long! And pointy!!

Oh-Zam-Ah: This big guy is probably the laid-back kind of creature. He doesn’t interact much with the others, but he sure can pack a punch with his fire!! He has black scales that swirl around with some lime green in it. An awesome sight!

Phyor: This little female Unigorn is a big girl!! A little bigger than Abner in just about every spot! Her colors are an acid red that slowly changes to a bright metallic-like pink. (The females are all slightly different than the males. Basically, they are equipped with an extra weapon. Their tails have a spike on it… which as babies are only little stubs.)

Jezmaitha: She is about the same size as Abner, just a little smaller. She also has the little stub of a tail, and has some very interesting colors. Hers change from a brilliant orange to a pastel sky blue. Jezmaitha is very shy and didn’t like most people. But I think she sensed something with me and was very playful.

That is about all on these remarkable breeds!

Witnesses

There have been several accounts of people who claim to have seen the attacks on Phillip and Brian Purewood, as well as the explosion at the Ravenclaw Memorial House. I've heard several sides of the story, myself, and received some anonymous interviews and several sides of these murders and attempts of murder. I will only, however, be including one side to each story.

My first interview comes from a witch who has recently been put into the WWPP, Witchs'/Wizards' Protection Program. For security reasons, we will refer to her as Janice.
~Des~: So, Janice, tell us about what you believe you saw.
*Janice: Well, Destiny, I was watering my flowers outside of my house when I saw a shady figure sneak behind the Ravenclaw Memorial House... but he didn't come back out. A few hours later, my husband walked out of the house and he saw a small blaze and he heard a voice chanting, but couldn't make out the words. He called me outside and, without warning, the house just... exploded!
~Des~: Thank you for your testimony, *Janice.
My next interview come from *Alec.
~Des~: What did you see that day of the death of Professor Brian Purewood, *Alec?
*Alec: W-Well... Are you sure that this can't be traced b-by... Harry Potter?
~Des~: I give you my solemn vow as a reporter.
*Alec: :gulp: O-Okay. I-I was making a visit to see Professor *Transler, when I saw it happen. I-I wasn't sure what I was s-seeing at first b-b-but when I realized that Professor Purewood and his son seemed to be in trouble. I st-started to come over but when young Phillip was hit a-a-and I realized that Harry was the one who had... o-or tried to kill him, I hid behind a tree and watched the whole thing with horror. I saw H-Harry use the Avada K-Kedavra Curse on the p-p-professor. I ran back to the front gates a-a-and informed the first professor I-I-I saw.
~Des~: That must have been a truly frightening experience for you *Alec, and I thrilled that you were willing to relive it for this interview.
I will keep you updated on the events of the Harry Potter trial and any other events that may be of any importance in our most dire days.

Follow Up On Disappearances

As you all know, there have been numerous disappearances since some You-Know-Who sightings. And I have finally gotten some interviews with the families of some of the victims. My first interview was with Douglas Framsico. :
~Zeke~: So, Mr. Framsico… what do you believe happened to your fiancé, Jazmine?
Framsico: It’s hard to imagine what has happened. But I believe it had to do with You-Know-Who! If you knew her… then you would also know that when You-Know-Who was in power, he tried to get her family over on the dark side. She wasn’t very old at the time and her and her mother were on a trip to one of her mothers friends. So they came back to find her entire family murdered!
~Zeke~: Oh my! So what does that have to do with her now?
Framsico: Well I guess he wanted to get her back on the dark side because she is a powerful witch! But she would never go over to the dark side. So either he figured out a way… or… he… *sob* killed her.
~Zeke~: Well where ever Jazmine is… we all hope that she is safe.
Framsico: Thank You.
My next interview was with a young Kezzibelle. She only 15 lost her father in the disappearances. And since her mother died when Kezzibelle was 7, she is now living with her fathers sister.
~Zeke~: Hello Kezzibelle. How have you been?
Kezzibelle: *sob*… well I’ve been better. I’m still in shock of losing my father in the disappearances, but in time I’ll get over it.
~Zeke~: Do you think that your father is dead or do you think he is still out there?
Kezzibelle: I’m not sure… I’d like to believe he is still alive, but with no news of the disappearance of people… well that’s not good news. If someone was found… then I would definitely believe he was still out there……….somewhere.
~Zeke~: In your opinion, do you think that there is a chance You-Know-Who is behind this?
Kezzibelle: Most likely. Knowing how evil the stupid pig is… but I wouldn’t know what he would have to do with my father. I just don’t know. And if my father is out there… then I want him to know I am praying for him.
~Zeke~: Well thank you for this interview, Kezzibelle.
Kezzibelle: No problem.
And the last interview I got was a quick interview. I don’t think that he liked it much but he gave me some information. My last interview was with Mr. Danny Jacobs.
~Zeke~: So, Mr. Jacobs, what do YOU think happened with to the people in the disappearances.
Jacobs: *squirms* Well, uh… I’m not sure. I have a few theories.
~Zeke~: And what might those theories be?
Jacobs: Well, uh… umm… that the Dark Lord is behind all of these disappearances. And that maybe some psychotic serial killer is running loose.
~Zeke~: And what makes you think that some psychotic serial killer is running loose?
Jacobs: I don’t know. It just sounds right. Um… I have to go now. Need to go to work. Good-bye!

So I was a bit curious with Mr. Jacobs reaction to everything. He squirmed all the time and if you ask me… I think he knows more than he is showing.
If you have any information on these disappearances, please send me an owl to: synthetic_reality@antisocial.com

Disappearances Through all the mayhem of the You-Know-Who sightings, I have reason to believe that not only have there been sightings… but disappearances!

When I tried to get an interview with the Minister of Magic, he only shunned me away. Said, “It’s all a bunch of bull hockey!” But I don’t think HE was so sure himself. So I looked into the case and found that there have been 7 disappearances! So far there have been 3 wizards, 2 witches, and 2 muggles disappear.

Is this some powerful dark magic or is it some foolish game? Is He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named really behind all of this? I don’t know. I have looked, dug, and scraped everywhere to find some hidden link to everything, but it all came to no avail!

I will be looking into the families that have had their loved ones disappear from their lives, and will try to get an interview with them and their belief on what happened.

If you have any clues to You-Know-Who sightings or the disappearance of people, please e-owl me at: synthetic_reality@antisocial.com

PHILIP PUREWOOD ALIVE!

An amazing discovery was made yesterday by one of our reporters at The Young Witch and Wizard Weekly. Philip Purewood, the son of Brian, is miraculously still alive after the attack that was made on him and his father one week ago by Harry Potter.

Philip, who is in a coma, is barely being kept alive by Madam Pomfrey, the school nurse in a secluded part of the Hogwarts castle. While I will not reveal my source, they tell me that even though Potter is in Azkaban, Dumbledore was wanting to keep the survival of Philip under wraps incase someone attempts another attack on the poor boy.

The trial for Potter in the murder of Brian Purewood and the attempted murder of his son Philip will begin on Wednesday, 9 October 2002, with the Minister of Magic, Mr Cornelius Fudge overseeing the proceedings. Anyone who was a witness in the case, or has evidence for or against Potter should attend.

We will bring more to you as this story unfolds.

In Memory

~Here, in our time of greatest need, we must pull together and become as one. We are one people and we are of one mind. Though there has been loss, a cost that should not have been paid, the only way to overcome this evil is to disspell it. If we do not join forces, if we should remain isolated from one another, we will most indefinitely be destroyed by it. So now, let no man be forgotten, no giant be excluded, and no magical creature be cast away. If we are to survive this evil, we must be strong. I give my consent to the people and families who have lost a loved one in the recent attacks. Not only has there been pain and suffering, but there have been lies. There are those among you who are under the spell of the Dark Lord Garonsu, those who have chosen to do his bidding, those who have betrayed their own kind for the mere protection of the Dark One. Here, today, in the place, I have gathered you all for a motivational speech, but I'm afraid that I may not get on to the end. I, myself, have lost someone in these horid attacks. My husband and nine-year-old son will be avenged, as will the rest of the people that Garonsu has murdered. My blood boils along with those of my countrymen, my mind tosses with those of the sleepless children, and most of all, my heart breaks with those of my people. We are not giants, elves, dwarves, goblins, trolls, veelas, leprechauns, witches, wizards. We are one in the same. We are hopes, dreams, and love!~

Rowena Ravenclaw's "Speech of the People" recited on January 30, 1565 on the sight of the last attack of the Dark Lord Garonsu. Her final words ring through our ears even now.

In the words of Rowena, in our time of greatest need, we must pull together and become as one.

I have deep regrets for Professor Purewood's death and for the death of Phillip Purewood, as well. Though, not everyone believes that the young Potter boy was capable of murder by "Avada Kedavra", there is hard evidence against the former hero. Harry will be in custody until proven innocent but, whether or not he is convicted, it wa not bring back the much beloved pofessor and son.

Regretfully, my sources have informed me recently that there was another attack much farther away than our own school. Muggles have been "persuaded" to believe that it was a small cigarette that started the fire at the old Ravenclaw House where several witches and wizards were on a business trip. With a heavy heart, I must report that there were no survivors of the blast at all. Only a few names of the victims have been released, because not many people have stepped forward to identify few bodies that have been recovered from the wreckage. I have a small list of the casualties and they are as follows:

  • Jacob Grendle
  • Hans Oliver
  • Frederick Garison
  • Henry Lotter
  • Daniel Smith Tisegope
These are all of the names available at the moment but I will try to keep you updated.
