An estimated 20,000 Polish persons answered the call to fight for freedom and the opportunity to regain Poland's independence during World War I in the Polish Army in France (in Polish, Armia Polska we Francyi). They were recruited from among the Polish immigrants who came to America to fight with France.
The Polish Army in France was also called "Haller's Army," after the general who commanded it, or the "Blue Army," for the blue uniforms the soldiers wore. Most of the recruitment papers for these persons are preserved in the archives of the Polish Museum of America. The recruitment papers for an individual usually consist of a set of three forms, A, B, and C.
Form A is an intention to volunteer and contains the name, address, age, and marital status.
Form B is a medical examination report for the volunteer.
Form C: The most genealogically significant information appears on Form C. It includes date and place of birth and usually the name and address of a parent or other close relative.
So what about the index? The index is arranged alphabetically by name so that you can easily find persons of interest. The city and state give the place the person was from when volunteering. This is helpful to narrow the choices if the person of interest has a common name. The last column is labelled "Form" but serves as a location code. It describes which record group the information will be found in.
There are three groups, A, C, and L. Group A is a collection of form A papers described above. Group C is a collection of form C papers. Each of these collections are bound into volumes. To locate the record, the page number, volume, and record group must be provided. Group L is a collection of loose papers. The page column of the index tells you which forms you can expect to find among the loose papers. A single individual might appear in the index three times-- having paperwork in each collection.

Hello,
My father's surname is Zadrozny and his family comes from Przewodowo (near Ciechanow) in Poland.
In Przewodowo there are still many people (my family) called Zadrozny.
I am particularly interested in my grandfather's brother (Stanis³aw) called Jozef Zadrozny
(he also had a brother Franciszek and a sister Wladyslawa -they stayed in Poland).
Jozef emigrated to Rochester after the First World War aged about 18.
He was born before 1900. He worked in a his uncle's restaurant in Rochester.
After emigrating he wrote a few letters but he never wrote his address.
I would like to know if he had any family there and what happened to him.

One time while we were visiting relatives in PA (not Zadrozny's) my mother and I were shopping when the women who was checking my mother's drivers licence for her check found that they had the exact same name!

My grandfather Theofilo went back to Europe with his parents when he still was a kid of one or two years.
At the age of 18 or 19 he returned to Brazil after serious disagreements with his parents, or religion, or government, I don´t know for sure about this and Theofilo never wanted to talk about this matter. What he mentioned to my family is that wanted to immigrate to China instead to Brazil, however one of his uncle convinced him to return to Brazil where he was born. I think that something very serious happened at that time in his live. Theofilo never wanted to talk about his past and never went back to look up for his family.
Theofilo´s mother language was German, which leads to believe that he grew up in some European region where German language was spoken. Julio was married to Irma, who was born in Austria.

I am pretty sure my family is the only Zadrozny family in Brazil. Carlos Curt Zadrozny was my grandfather, where did you hear about him? I don't know much about the origin of my family. All I know is that they first came to Brazil and had a son (Theofilo Zadrozny, my great grandfather) and then went back to Europe. Later on (I think around 1915), after living in Russia for a while, Theofilo returned to Brazil. Since he was a brazilian citizen, we do not have much information about the country where the family was originally from. My family said he did not like to talk much about his past.
