Double L: What's up Ryu?
Ryu: Nothing much. I've got a Ninja Gaiden game coming out for Playstation 2 soon. That should be interesting. I'll actually be in 3-D. But I understand that you didn't ask me to show up to talk about modern games.
Double L: Of course not. I'd rather talk NES.
Ryu: Definitely. The three Ninja Gaiden games I starred in on NES were the most I've had on any one system.
Double L: Yup. I want to talk about the first Ninja Gaiden. Going right back to the beginning…what were you doing when you found your father's letter?
Ryu: I was just cleaning out my room. My mom was coming home later that night, and she said if my room wasn't straightened up when she got back that I'd be grounded for a week.
Double L: So ninjas have the same lives as the rest of us. Anyways…how did you feel when you found it?
Ryu: Well, I was picking papers up off the floor when I noticed one that seemed suspicious…I looked at it and there was the note from my father.
Double L: And you decided to set off.
Ryu: Any true ninja would have. My father was late in returning, and now I understood why. He told me to avenge his death, and I wasn't about to let him down.
Double L: Tell me about Irene.
Ryu: Irene's an interesting girl. First she shoots me and then she helps me, ending up becoming my friend. I can't understand it myself.
Double L: Now I want to ask you about something that is on the minds of most everyone who has ever played Ninja Gaiden. In Act 3-1, the landscape looks dry. Then in Act 3-2, there's snow on the ground. Now how did that happen?
Ryu: No comment.
Double L: Alrighty then, let's move on. Favorite boss.
Ryu: Bloody Malth. He defeated my father so I defeated him.
Double L: Favorite level.
Ryu: Definitely Act 4-2. The music is great, not to mention I like the actual level too. And my favorite cut scene in the game is the one after Act 2, where I meet Dr. Smith.
Double L: I was just about to ask that.
Ryu: I thought so.
Double L: Least favorite enemy to fight.
Ryu: (Laughs) You should not even need to ask that, Double L. The damn birds. I can't tell you how many times a bird has killed me. Thank god for my infinite continues.
Double L: So, Ryu…what happens at the end of the game?
Ryu: Double L, you poor fool. I know that you've never beaten Ninja Gaiden. You've been tantalizingly close…Act 6-4, amazing! But you've never beaten it! You think I'm going to give away the ending? Not a chance, my friend. This conversation is over!
