When you first play Baseball Stars, you might have a lot of trouble making contact.  This is partly because your players stink, and partly because you stink.  Here are a few tried and true hitting tips.
Move up in the box.  Chances are you are overeager if you're missing.
Move in toward the plate.  It increases your chances of being hit by pitch and also helps you to reach the outside pitch, which I just know you swing at.
If there is a pitcher who you are having trouble getting hits off of, take one strike before you swing.  The more pitches that pitcher throws, the sooner he gets tired.
Hold down the A button for the entire length of your swing.  If you let go, which I used to do, the game reads it as an attempt to bunt, and you won't hit the ball very far at all.
If you here the noise associated with a drop pitch, don't swing.  Unless, of course, there are two strikes - then you pretty much have to swing, because sometimes the pitches won't drop.
Time your swing to where you want to hit the ball.  Swing later if you are a right-handed hitter and wish to hit it to second base to advance a runner from second to third.  I could go over where you want to hit the ball in all sorts of situations, but I won't bore you with my managerial strategy.
