I remember the day like it was yesterday, despite the fact that it was almost 2000 nights ago.
My brother and I got driven down to the local Funco, allowance in hand, ready to buy the hot new football game, Madden NFL '94.
We split the cost evenly, 21 dollars apiece, and went back home, eager to play with our new toy.
We played the game for a couple hours non-stop. We were certain that it was going to be one of our favorite games. If I remember correctly, it was the first sports game we got for the Super Nintendo, so it was quite an occasion.
Shortly after we were done playing, I got in an argument with my brother. Don't remember what it was about, just that we had one.
Anyway, I went into our garage and got this toy metal rifle that we had. Taking it in my hand, I chased my brother down the driveway. When he was beginning to pull away from me and I knew that I would not catch him, I threw the rifle.
It floated through the air and hit him square in the back - a beautiful throw, if I do say so myself. He fell to the ground with the force of the throw.
It would have been quite a happy ending, but unfortunately my parents saw the whole thing happen. I was going to be punished, and I knew just how. No Madden '94.
I tried to get out on the excuse that it was a total accident, but it didn't fly. My dad laid down the sentence - two days without Nintendo.
My brother rubbed it in my face. It was all I could do to hold back from picking up the rifle and smacking him again.
Everybody tells me that it was only two days, but it seemed like eternity. It wasn't fun not being able to play a new game.
So what's the moral of this story? Beat up your brother, except when you just got a new video game.
