Double L: Hello everyone, and welcome to Event 1 of the World's Strongest NES Cart competition - the Toss.
Kaz: The Toss has always been my favorite event. Nothing beats watching helpless carts go soaring thru the air.
Double L: Now Kaz, in your opinion, which cart has the best shot at taking this event?
Kaz: It's sort of hard to say. This is SMB's favorite event, so he undoubtedly prepared for it better than the others. But Duck Hunt, who will be thrown second, has a knack for taking the early lead. The other two carts are a little bit too heavy to do well in this competition, I think.
Double L: Now would be a good time to remind viewers that points are awarded on a 5-3-1-0 scale. The winner takes 5 points, second place 3, and so on.
Kaz: They're about ready to start, so let's go down to the action.
Double L: Super Mario Bros. is the first cart to take it's turn. Our robotic tosser is in position to throw the cart. Note the form as it spins around twice...and SMB is in the air!
Kaz: Great toss, look at the height! This will surely set a hard to beat mark.
Double L: The judges are measuring...wow, the distance is 108 feet 3 inches!
Kaz: Fantastic! That's only 7 inches away from the world record.
Double L: SMB seems quite pleased with himself, but look at Duck Hunt - now Kaz, is that or is that not a cart on a mission?
Kaz: He's definitely pumped. This guy hates to finish second. With the adrenaline rush he has right now, I predict that it's going to break SMB's mark and the world record as well.
Double L: Duck Hunt seems to be in no hurry to make his way to the launching platform, so I'll explain the robotic tosser. It spins in the same way every time, so it's up to the cart to determine how far it will go. If the cart positions itself well, it will get a good high, far launch, like SMB just did. If it isn't in the right place, it wil either go too high or too low, and not go very far.
Kaz: Duck Hunt is now in position.
Double L: The robot has started to spin...and look at Duck Hunt! Something is extremely wrong!
Kaz: Oh, he slipped out of position before the toss and has been thrown off to the side!
Double L: The judges have marked it at 37 feet 10 inches.
Kaz: What a poor start for Duck Hunt. Now, this is his first competition, so this could really hurt his morale - I don't think he has much of a shot anymore.
Double L: Wasting no time, Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt is ready to go.
Kaz: If he does well here, he'll put himself in a great position to have a lead after two events - his best event, drop, is next.
Double L: The robot is moving...
Kaz: SMB/DH is in perfect position!
Double L: And he's off! This could be a new record...but wait the wind has slowed the cart down!
Kaz: Oh, a stroke of bad luck! Still a good toss, but nowhere near where it could have been.
Double L: It went a distance of 99 feet 0 inches.
Kaz: That's good for either second or third place, depending on SMB/DH/WCTM's performance.
Double L: Walking with the swagger of a true veteran, Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt/World Class Track Meet is approaching the platform.
Kaz: Look at him. He's got his game face on.
Double L: He's all set. The robot has started to turn...
Kaz: Oh he slid out for a second but recovered!
Double L: Great recovery and a great launch!
Kaz: He's got a shot at the record!!!
Double L: Indeed he does...he hits just barely beyond SMB's mark...is it enough to break the record?
Kaz: I think it is!
Double L: Yes, he's done it! With a toss of 111 feet 4 inches, he's broken the Toss record that stood for nearly 15 years!
Kaz: Wow, he broke the record by over two feet! A crushing!
Double L: But wait...SMB/DH/WCTM is not getting up...
Kaz: You're right, the trainers are with him now. By the way they're acting, I think it's a lower back strain.
Double L: This type of injury has been known to happen during the toss event...it kept Duck Hunt from competing here two years ago.
Kaz: Well, we might not know exactly what happened to him until the press conference immediately before the next event. So that leaves us guessing for a week. I've got quite a hunch that it's something to do with his lower back. Could be devastating.
Double L: With or without SMB/DH/WCTM, the competition will go on. After 1 event, here are the standings:
SMB/DH/WCTM - 1st place, 5 points
SMB - 2nd place, 3 points
SMB/DH - 3rd place, 1 point
DH - 4th place, 0 points
Double L: We'll see you next time here on World's Strongest NES Cart. For Bill Kazmaier, this is Double L. So long everybody.
