Recently, the review grading system was changed dramatically. Allow me to explain the new system:
Games are graded in four categories: Graphics, Fun Factor, Play Control, and Sound. In each category, a game receives a grade from 1 to 12. Each number corresponds to a letter grade: 12 is an A, 11 is an A-, 10 is a B+, and so on...
Games are graded based on their peers. If a game is better than a game that got a 9 and worse than a game that got an 11, then it will get a 10 in that category.
25% of the final grade comes from graphics, 35% from fun factor, 30% from play control, and 10% from sound.
The highest final grade possible is a 48. In order to do this, a game would need to get perfect grades in all four categories.
This is the formula used that satisfies those two criteria (48 points max and the percentage of the final grade that each category makes up): Graphics + 1.4(Fun Factor) + 1.2(Play Control) + 0.4(Sound) = Final Grade.
A game getting above a 44 gets an A. Above a 40, an A-. Above a 36, a B+. And so on and so forth.
I think it's a pretty cool system, don't you?
