Double L: Welcome back to World's Strongest NES Cart. Kaz, this has been one great competition so far, hasn't it?
Kaz: Indeed it has. After two events, the competition is as close as can be.
Double L: Not only is there a tie for first, but the last place cart is just one point off of our current leaders.
Kaz: If the rest of the competition is this close, trust me, it's going to be talked about for years. Don't be surprised if we head into the last event, the roll, with all carts within striking distance of the lead.
Double L: Kaz, what do you think is the key to this event?
Kaz: It's all aerodynamics. The bat is swung the same way every time by our robot. It's up to the cart to put itself in a good position when it's hit and, once it's in the air, to keep it's flight smooth and streamlined.
Double L: SMB/DH is all ready to go. He's in position...
Kaz: Notice the concentration.
Double L: The robot swings and the cart is airborne!
Kaz: He's having a tough time rotating properly, this won't be a great showing.
Double L: The cart lands, tumbling to a halt...seems to be an average mark...68 feet 7 inches.
Kaz: That's not what he's looking for. If he's winning the competition by a mile, that is the perfect performance, but in such a close competition, winning this event is nothing short of crucial. That number will not help him one bit.
Double L: SMB is now preparing to be hit.
Kaz: He takes an interesting position up there. Notice how he's twisted around sideways. That causes him to have a twirling motion up in the air; he thinks it helps him cut through the wind.
Double L: Might not be a bad move, there is a 17 mile per hour headwind right now.
Kaz: And the bat is swung! Notice the twisting motion, he's slicing right through the air!
Double L: Amazing height! Coming down to earth just short of 100 feet!
Kaz: 98 feet 11 inches is the official distance.
Double L: Not bad at all. That just might win the event.
Kaz: Possibly, but keep in mind that Duck Hunt, the current world record holder, is now approaching the platform.
Double L: That's a game face he's sporting, isn't it Kaz?
Kaz: Definitely. He may be a newbie in this Strongest NES Cart competition, but he knows the importance of this event.
Double L: He's ready for action. The bat is swung...oh, looks fantastic upon contact!
Kaz: Yes, but it's quite a low trajectory...oh, it's going to be close. If he had been higher in the air, he would have crushed the world record, but I'm not even sure he passed SMB thanks to his low flight.
Double L: No, he looks to be about a foot short of SMB's mark. But wait a minute...look where it's being marked!
Kaz: The officials have stretched the measure beyond SMB's mark! The official distance...99 feet 3 inches.
Double L: And upon looking at the instant replay, it seems that they are right. Notice how the front end hits the ground, propelling it to flip forward end over end.
Kaz: If the back end of the cart had hit the ground, he would have been an inch or two short.
Double L: That puts Duck Hunt in first, with only SMB/DH/WCTM remaining.
Kaz: Yes, he is completely healed from his injury. Let's see what he can do...
Double L: The bat is swung and SMB/DH/WCTM is up...and boy, do I mean up.
Kaz: He went far too high. He's coming down now...about 75 feet.
Double L: 76 feet 6 inches, to be exact.
Kaz: He went so high because he had poor positioning on the starting platform. No one to blame but himself.
Double L: In past competitions of the sort, the 3rd round has proved pivotal. It may be that way again. After three events, the standings are as follows:
DH - 1st place, 10 points
SMB - 2nd place, 7 points
SMB/DH/WCTM - 3rd place, 6 points
SMB/DH - 4th place, 4 points
Kaz: For Double L, this is Bill Kazmaier. Will Duck Hunt strengthen it's lead, or will it fall off as I predicted? Find out next time right here at NEStopia in Event 4 of World's Strongest NES Cart.
