Early in December, a post on the message board clearly stated that Funcoland would stop carrying NES games as of this coming summer.  This post has been preserved on TNCA.

A couple weeks later, I went to my local Funco and noticed an extremely depleted stock of NES carts, prompting me to write the Funco Crisis article that you have probably already read.

And now, breaking news reaches me via e-mail from all the way across the country.  Contrary to earlier reports, Funcoland has no intentions to stop carrying NES games:

"Just a short note, we at Funcoland are not cutting back our NES games, the problem is the popularity of moving out older system games onto the sales floor has been enormous. As long as customers want them we will carry them, the hurdle is getting more in. The consistent problem is keeping the games at a decent price means not offering a lot for them as a trade in. But I am glad you like the new merchandising of the stores, we have tried hard to represent all games we have in the store on the sales floor so you the customer have an easier time finding what you want. Here in Arizona we have even used our glass cabinets to display the more expensive NES, SNES and Genesis games that we feel more hesitant to put directly on the floor (shoplifting is still a problem we can't escape)...Just thought I'd let you know that the NES is still safe and if your ever in the Phoenix area please drop on by any of my stores."

Charles Morgan, Area Manager Funcoland Phoenix

Just look at the second sentence: "As long as customers want them we will carry them, the hurdle is getting more in."  It seems clear to me that, as of right now, NES games are in no imminent danger at Funcoland.
