This Site is Dead (OSG's Response)
"Hey-Ho I'd like to start off by saying I think I can be brutally honest with you. I won't sugar coat anything. Not to say I have to. Next, I'd like to say that this is OSG. If that pulls any weight with anyone anymore. After all of that jibber, I'd like to say that I finally got around to reading your article on the closing of the NES Dungeon. I'm trying to be precise here, because I feel if I'm not, I'm not replying to your article so much as saying it's good or not. First off, I'd like to applaud your recognition that maintaining a website is not easy. NES or otherwise, it's a lot of work. Especially when you don't get any pay or any mail. It's work for nothing. You really need a reason to continue. My only reason these days is to outdo myself. Next, I'd like to say that having a poor fanbase to start is not always a deterrant. If someone is a crazy enough of a fan, they will persist. Anyone who knows anything about my site knows about the one year period where I had 1000 hits. That's like, 2.5 hits a day,or something. Not great, to say the least. After a year of that, I really stepped up with advetising and work. At my peak, a few months ago, I had nearly 70 hits a day. Not anywhere near some of the greater sites, but still not bad for an idiotic humor site. My point is, if you really care, your initial lull period has no effect on what your site can become. Finally, I would like to say that everyone reaches a breaking point for whatever reason eventually. Wether it be low fan base, lack of desire, lack of creativity or whatever. I agree with you that when a webmaster decides to stop, that's it. There's not much else you can do. BUT, everyone has to stop sometime. The only thing you can do to slow down the death of a site is to e-mail your favorite webmaster time and again and tell them they're doing okay. Everyone apreciates a letter now and again-- positive or negative. Everyone. So I am e-mailing you. Keep up the spiffy work
