The Setup
I walk down the carpeted stairs to my basement, the stairs that I know so well. Turning 180 degrees, the systems come into view. I walk toward them and flip on the light switch. I then look to my right.
A large, oversize, gigundo, enormous, larger than life inflatable chair rests lightly in front of the TV. The TV is a 20 inch Sony Trinitron.
To the right of the TV are the systems. On the first shelf, N64. On the second shelf, SNES. And on the third and highest shelf, NES. They're all hooked up so that they can be played simultaneously at the switch of a button.
Next to the NES are a half dozen games that are the ones I've been playing lately. Currently they are Baseball Stars, Orb 3-D, RBI Baseball 2, Dragon Warrior, and Final Fantasy.
Lying on the ground below the NES and to its right is the game box. The games in the box are at least 70 strong, a few of them with boxes and manuals that lie to the right of the box. All of the games rest in sleeves.
Below the trio of systems lies the tangle of wires. Half a dozen wires end in a half a dozen controllers.
I pick up the NES controller out of the tangled mass. I walk over to my NES, pop in a game, and push the left button - the POWER button. The light stays on. I turn on the TV. I press the VIDEO button. I am greeted with the title screen of the chosen NES game.
This is where I play NES.
