After I finished writing the Day 1 Log, a friend came over to my house. Not wanting to dissapoint him, we went down and played NG for about twenty minutes. I was not able to beat Level 5-3. Undoubtedly those who have made it that far remember the dog that knocks you into the pit on the third floor of that level. It killed me about fifteen times last night. Every time, I jumped up in a rage, swearing on my honor as a ninja that I had hit that greyhound with my sword. The game did not believe me.
That night, I slept, thinking of Day 2. I woke numerous times with bad dreams of birds flying all over. After one of them around 6:00 in the morning, I lay there thinking of how to beat the greyhound. It was then that I remembered my motto from Level 2-2, the level with those pitchfork throwing ghost thingies. LEAD WITH YOUR SWORD. I sat up straight. That's it, I thought. I must start my sword swing before I hit the ground. That greyhound is dead meat.
I started Ninja Gaiden for the day around 9:00. In about two minutes, I had gotten past the greyhound. But half of the level was left, and I died and had to start at the beginning numerous times.
Then one time, I got past the greyhound with three bars of health left, less than usual. I'm dead, I remember thinking. Well, I wasn't. I got through the next floor taking only two hits, and I had one more floor ahead. I did not know this at the time, though, so I thought I was screwed. But, I gave it my all, and, as luck would have it, I made it. It was on to 5-4 and Malth.
Lucky for me, I got full health before facing Malth. You killed my father! I was sure to get revenge. Unfortunately, Malth is no easy victim. I think his hits take off lots of damage, because every time I looked up I had a lot less. But so did Malth. I kept kneeling next to him and slashing at his knees. After Malth struck again, I had one health bar and Malth had two. With my hands shaking uncontrollably and the sweat running down my face (yes, I was sweating) I delivered the final two hits. As Malth dissapeared and my point total was raised, I snapped out of a trance and realized what I had just done. I was moving on to Level 6! Needless to say, I whooped it up.
Malth said he didn't kill my father, but I don't believe him. It doesn't matter. I'm on to Level 6.
Level 6-1 was quite easy; I beat it on my first try. However, after that, I had the daunting Level 6-2. It took me awhile to get past the first floor. Those flying ninjas and their ninja stars are quite a task. I eventually made it through, using a Jump n Slash to my advantage.
But the second floor was impossible. I hardly got started into it before I was hit into a bottomless pit. After that happening a few times, I paused the game and set it aside. It was 10:30, and I was already calling it a day. Why was I doing this?
First off because I have three more days. By no means do I have to beat NG today. Also, I need two things - inspiration and confidence. Right now, at 3:49 PM, I have neither. I must keep my morale up, and setting the game aside always seems to do that.
I'll see you tomorrow, Ninja Gaiden.
