I started play this morning at around nine o'clock.  Things went smoothly through the first level...as they always do.  However, I started encountering trouble rather early in Level 2-1.  Carelessness killed me a few times, and it was fifteen minutes before I reached Level 2-2.  Not a good start to the NG Project.  It got worse.  Level 2-2 was impossible for me this morning.  I played it for half an hour, and finally I had to give up.  I usually have a bit of trouble with Level 2-2, but nothing like this.  I paused the game and went on a Funco run.  I picked up RBI Baseball 2, but that's beyond the point.  Getting back to Ninja Gaiden.  I ate lunch around 1:00, not having played since going to Funco.  I was already considering calling it quits for the day.  Maybe for the project.  The project was hardly started and I missed playing other games.  I missed my Baseball Stars team, I missed Mega Man 2.  I got dangerously close to turning off the NES, but no.  A true ninja wouldn't do that.  I must keep going.
Soon after I picked it up again, I beat Level 2-2, and the Level 2 boss was defeated with ease.  On to Level 3-1, which I own.  But first, I had to watch the cinema scene with Dr. Smith, because it has downright sweet music.  So, after that, I played Level 3-1.  As usual, I beat it on the first try.  On to Level 3-2, which I know by heart but still seem to have trouble with.  It took me about fifteen minutes to reach the boss, but I was not deterred.  Then, when I was at the boss, I defeated it the first time I faced it.  I used a really psycho strategy that involved running everywhere, hardly orthodox.  I still don't know how I beat that fat boss, but I did, somehow.
It was around 2:00.  After watching the cinema scene, I took a break, knowing that I had a tough Level 4-1 waiting.  How did I know it was tough?  I could just sense it.
At 3:00 or so, I took on Level 4-1.  It at first was quite a task, but once I figured out the pattern I was able to beat the rather short level.  Level 4-2 I don't exactly remember, it got lost in the fray but I know I beat it.  I then had some trouble with 4-3.  At 3:30, I put the controller down to take a break.
I returned half an hour later and beat 4-3.  On to the boss of Level 4.  Or should I say, bosses.  Well, in my first fight with the...whatever they are, I figured some things out.  First, one of the bosses is a dud.  You can't hurt it.  Also, the things never land beneath the pedestals.  I had my tools to win, I thought.
My second battle with the boss was a tough one, a close one, that I lost.  I decided that I had been to passive, and that I must be more aggresive.  My third time facing the things, I was extremely active.  Instead of staying under the pedestals, where you are usually not hurt, I seeked out the real boss and killed it very quickly.  When the battle was won, I had one bar of health left.
At first, Level 5-1 was very hard.  I left the game for ten minutes and came back to find the level very easy.  After figuring out the patterns, it was on to 5-2.
5-2 was easy, except for that ledge under the overhang.  Once I reached that, though, I was home free to 5-3.
And that's where I am at the end of Day 1.  The first day of the NG Project was a great success.
