The NG Project took place on June 29-July 3.  It was a five-day span in which I would attempt to beat Ninja Gaiden, and I mean really try.  I forced myself to go by the following guidelines:

Never, ever, turn off the NES.  No matter how mad you get at the game for being so hard, always remain calm.

Do not cheat.  Do not read FAQ's for Ninja Gaiden online.  Do not ask for help with bosses beyond level 3.

Do not post on the NES Message Board of NESescity, or read posts on the board for the five days of the project.  You may accidentally pick up information on Ninja Gaiden.

Keep a winning attitude:  this game can be beaten.

Before the NG Project, I had not beaten the third boss of the game.  OK, that may sound pathetic, but I'd never sat down and actually played this game hard.  I thought it couldn't be beaten.  Do you want to know how I did?  Click back on your browser and go to the day by day summaries of the events of the NG project.
