I was in the Navy from 1983-1987. Went to boot camp at Great Lakes. sometimes referred to as "great mistakes". I was stationed
on the USS Mahan(ddg-42)in Charleston, SC. Then on the USS Conyngham(ddg-17)"THE GUS BOAT" in Norfolk, VA.

Ship's Motto: Ready to Serve
Here are a few pictures of the "GUS BOAT" USS CONYNGHAM.

Take a look at the very top!!!!!See the top of the mast??? Guess who painted that damn thing while the ship was drydocked in Philadelphia for a year.

While serving on the USS CONYNGHAM we were sent to the Persian Gulf in FEB 87' to protect the shipping industry using the gulf. You may recall before Desrt Storm, MAY 15th 1987 the USS STARK, one of the ships we were stationed with getting hit by two missles shot off Iraqi aircraft. Here is the results of the damage done. Please remember 36 sailors had lost their lives on the USS STARK.

The Stark in tow by mooring lines off the end of my ship.

This is me on the CONYNGHAM with the STARK in the background.
