Weird stuff

Didja ever notice that there's some odd, cool or just plain weird things in Symphony of the Night? Heh, I did, but then I again, I've played a little bit too much. So listed here are some.....odd or funny things that are in the game, either discovered by me, or discovered by friends.

Enemies say the darndest things....

Well, mainly bosses, really. And they do odd things, too. For instance, when you're fighting the Succubus and the fight lasts fairly long, she'll sometimes shoot...petals (??) at you, thus cursing you. Then she proceeds to try to rape Alucard, and she says "I'll suck you dry...". Gee kids, there goes our G rating. But it looks funny, seeing Al squirm when she tackles him! HAA HAA!
I think it's great how the female bosses always feel the need to say something, don't you? Other than the Succubus, the fake Sypha says "NO!!" whenever you attack her (yeah right, like you're gonna stop). Not only that, but whenever Medusa shoots eye beams at Al, she yells "DOWN!". Oh right, that's it......"Heal, sit, roll over, Al!". Somehow I think that them yelling doesn't do a damn bit of good.
And for the bosses that say things, probably the stupidest one is Shaft. Why? Because all he says is "Shaft." I kinda expect him to break into an Isaac Hayes tune whenever I hear him say that.

The mystery of the Rune Sword
Das ist verboten, ja?

So, what does the Rune Sword really say when you throw it? Well, after squinting at the screen and throwing the sword for 15 minutes, I finally figured it out! Then two weeks later, I found this pic that clearly shows that it says "Verboten". Oh well. But anyway, "Verboten" is german for "Forbidden". Way cool. Oh, and looking at this Alucard's HP and hearts, I think that a little cheating took place here. Can we say GAME SHARK?

"Hey, you made a poor dhampire scream!"
Well, only because it's funny! I'm sure you know this, but stick Alucard in that elevator in the Outer Wall, and make it go down. He'll scream bloody murder, and then go "Unh!" when it stops. When you make it go up, he's plastered to the floor. And when you stick Richter in it, it sounds like the guy's dying. Er, no thanks folks....I'll just take the stairs.

"WHAT??"
Heh, it's fun making Al say that, isn't it? There's several ways to do this, all of which result in something mildly to relatively humerous. One way is to get Al stuck in a tiny nook or cranny that he can't fit in too well. Just get in there as a bat or a wolf, then change back, and he'll scream "WHAT??" I don't understand why he's so surprised. Okay, if you're 5'9'', and you see a crack that's like 2'4'' square, wouldn't you get the concept that you JUST WON'T FIT? Yeah, really something to be surprised about, Al.
Another coolie thing is to put Al in the Axe Lord Armor. This in itself is funny. At first, he screams the beloved "WHAT??" when you put it on him, and then if you have him just stand there, he'll struggle and grunt trying to get out of the armor, and getting angrier by the minute. Oh well, at least when he's wearing the armor, he jumps as high as a normal person would (which is like, 2 feet). I figured it out, and Al jumps like 15 feet or so into the air. Fun.
And another way you can tick him off and have him yell "WHAT??" is to poison him or curse him. Eh, it's something to do, I guess.

Stone-cold
Okay, I'm sure that all of us have gotten turned to stone at one point in the game or another, no matter how good you are. Some of you might not of noticed, but sometimes when Alucard is turned to stone, he won't be covered by a "stone skin" like he usually is, but will be encased in an ENORMOUS stone gargoyle. He can bust out of this prediciment just as quickly as he can when he's just plain Al wearing a layer of stone, but unlike then, when anything hits him he can't get hurt. So you can sit there as the gargoyle, Medusa heads can be flying left and right, and he won't get hurt one bit. Nifty.

Giddyap!
Here's a fun thing to do: ride a Diplocephalus. That is, one of those ugly green things with a woman for a tail. Here's what you do: first, jump up on the thing's back. Then, start whacking at the woman part of it with your sword (or hold up either the Alucard Shield, the Medusa Shield, or the Dark Shield to her), and the entire beast will try to back away. The only problem is, that when it backs away, Al goes along for the ride. Just a silly thing to do.
Another monster you can ride around is the Panthropus (those giant skeletons). Al can stand on their heads, but when they walk, you gotta move with them or he'll fall off and hurt his widdle skinny bottom. But actually, if you just let a Panthropus do its thing, it'll first try clubbing Al with it's bone, then throwing the bone, then it'll lunge at Alucard (and generally miss). So while it's laying there helpless on the ground, you can whoop it's sorry ass.

"Huh.....?"
I'm sure you all know about the wonderful powers the Shield Rod gives shields, right? Well, try it on the Alucart Shield for fun, and watch intently with your beady little eyes glued on the screen. Alucard will resemble the pic of Al I have in the banner at the top of this page. He'll get all confused, because the Alucart Shield is the only shield that doesn't do ANYTHING. Funny at first, but it gets old the 30th or 40th time you do it.

Gender Benders...
I was talking to a friend of mine not too long ago, and we were poking fun at Alucard. When I mentioned to him that the Succubus pins Alucard with her wings and....um....gets in his pants, he cracked up and asked "What if the Succubus was a gay Incubus instead?". We laughed about that for a while, and then I thought the subject was over. Then two days later I got this picture in my inbox:

My thanks to my friend Charlie and his utterly bizzare imagination for this picture. May we hope that he doesn't draw any more disturbing artwork. :Ž

Who is Slogra, anyway?
Fellow Castlevania fan Eric Roman sent me this:
"Check out this exerpt from my latest e-mail to Kurt. It's about Slogra.

<Beligan, which might be a play on the name of the bird species, Pelican. What do you think? Maybe the boss Nintendo Power (and myself) sells as the dinosaur knight is actually a bird-man with a tail?!?>>

What do you think?"

Thanks to Eric for this little insight.
