What is it that attracts us to the darkness? Why do we feel this need to look into the shadows and under our beds every night to wonder what kinds of daemons and beasts wander through that darkness effortlessly while we crouch in curious phobia? Will humans ever overcome that fear of the mysterious and unknown? ![]() This page is written for those, who although maybe not real in the three dimensional form, have conquered that darkness, who made it their own. But not without sacrifice. The darkness is a void, and so takes its toll on those who dare approach it. For with that conquer comes insanity, fear, self-loathing, or maybe just a misunderstanding from those around the fearless conquerer. The average drone makes damn sure not to fall into that void. But with insanity comes freedom, and the drone in all his conformity is suffering a slow and painful death in his imprisonment. And, like those that fall into the void, the world of animation is unlike our own mundane world. It is strange and beautiful, like that shadow that jumps (or hides, depending on the way you look at it) even in spite of the candle fire in front of it. The fantasies on screen appeal to us because the characters, the music, and the settings in which all of this takes place strike a certain chord in our hearts that make us daydream, to sit back and wish we could be a part of that fantasy. It is my hope that this humble page will invoke those same wonderful feelings of escape and disattachment, two feelings of which are not necessarily negative. Nothing is truly negative, even the blackest evil has at least a tiny bit of good within. As are the characters focussed in my site. All of the key players are different than the other anime stereotypes in the fact that they are detached. Detached from their true love, from the humanity they search for but cannot find, for a common understanding of why they do things the way they do. This was created in honor of these fallen angels and of the people who associate themselves with the nephilim.
My page, still the first and only site of its kind on the Internet, has now been up since Thanksgiving weekend 1998, which seems like a very, very long time ago to me. Over the months, "Melancholia" has been a real pain in the ass and I'm often left wondering why I still bother with it, haven't deleted it into the oblivion of the almighty Trash Can. I haven't because I can't. I realize that it's cause of understanding and tolerance and popularity for lesser known anime characters can be applied if you will to real life and real people, and that's important. And also because it's something to alleviate my boredom and a good way to avoid sleeping...
10-1-99: Hey, after joining the Tenchi And Anime Awards Engine (TAAE), I decided to actually DO something about it! I made a total of 5 new awards, as well as renovating the existing two (Goth and PerkyGoff) so they don't look all fuzzy and gross with the home page images. Whee! Please sign up! 8-17-99: I got two more awards! Yahoo! One from Mercury's Imperial Palace and one from Aniholics.com. Check out their cool sites and see the awards posted here. 8-16-99: In short, I got my little sister to do another shrine for me (hey, I'm lazy! And I had to go to bed early and get up for registration!). The Seimaden shrine is back up! And hopefully I won't accidentally delete it again... 8-14-99: Another excellent day as far as productivity goes. Well, not for me. I got my little sister to make a shrine for me, devoted to Koji Nanjo of everyones' favorite yaoi series, "ZetsuAi". Check it out. Or else. 8-10-99: I was up until past 1:00 a.m. making this shrine! Oh, the productivity! I have the Ruroni Kenshin shrine up, a feature on expert swordsman and trainer Hiko. In my opinion one of the gothest characters on my site. Praises to the powers that be! 8-9-99: Well, I uploaded that file on everyone's favorite anime succubus, Morrigan. Well, I could name about 10 anime succubi I like more than her. In fact, I hate her. But that's beside the point. 8-8-99: Voice your opinion! I get so many comments on my page's featured characters that I decided to let them be known widely across the 'Net. Who is the gothest of them all? 5-27-99: I am full aware that it is completely unrelated to gothic anime, but I added a page concerning my "Save Mystery Science Theater 3000" campaign. I know there are other fans out there willing to help me, so please! Sign the petition and save my favorite show! 5-7-99: I finally got that frames version up! I am an HTML genius! Bow to me!5-4-99: Piece of %^&* Geocities account messed up my counter and now I'm really frustrated with it; IT STARTED BACK AT ZERO!! Oh, well, at least now I know I've got a hundred hits a day.... 5-3-99: I made a sort of Entrance Page, kind of like the welcome mat for the House of Melancholia. I loved the cross image but felt no one was taking the time to look at it. Isn't it pretty? Switched my Home Page MIDI, "Blood Roses" with "Winter", one of my all-time favorite songs by one of my all-time favorite artists. Isn't it pretty? 5-2-99: I'm finally getting all of this stuff done; that shrine on Gally from "Gunnm"/"Gun Dream"/"Battle Angel Alita" is uploaded at last. It's really about time I got up off my butt and accomplished something. 5-1-99: I FINALLY added that Vampire Hunter D shrine I've been threatening the world with for the past six months or so. I also am working on replacing the current homepage with frames, but I might never get around to finishing it. 4-17-99: Replaced all of my MIDIs with Nine Inch Nails songs for more continuity (lately I've just had this thing for continuity...). I hope you like them. And the Seimaden shrine is down for a little while, I accidentally replaced it with something I didn't want. 4-16-99: After a brief hiatus, the Shadow Lady shrine is back on-line and better than ever (in my humble opinion). I just need to get my ws_ftp to start working again and I'll get up the Vampire Hunter D page I wrote...
