Skyline: The Space Needle is decorated with Christmas lights..

Plot: It's Christmas and Frasier and Niles are arguing over who will host the family Christmas celebration this year. Frasier says its tradition that they have Christmas at his apartment, but Niles wants to have it at the Montana since it is his first Christmas married to Daphne. The brothers ask Martin to decide and give him a few days.

However the bickering continues and Martin gets so fed up that he decides to work on Christmas Day instead. Frasier and Niles both feel very guilty about this an decide to put their differences behind them. They ask Martin to reconsider but he can't back out now - then Frasier has an idea. They will take Christmas to Martin by switching the Crane presents under Frasier's tree with the fake presents under the tree at Martin's work. After a bit of confusion about which presents go where, everything is finally ready - until on Christmas morning, Martin surprises his sons - he didn't have to go to work as his supervisor let him have the day off. Frasier and Niles have some news for Martin...

Meanwhile Roz is volunteering as an elf at the mall, but Daphne thinks she has a crush on Santa Claus. Not the man playing him (Rick), but on Santa...

Subtitles: Merry Christmas, Steve!

Roz loves..... Rick, who's playing Santa at the mall - until she sees him without his costume. This makes Daphne think she loves Santa, not Rick...

Martin knows..... Jimmy Daily, who asked Martin to do the Christmas shift.

Trivia: This is the first episode written by Patricia Breen. The first Christmas episode for 2 years. Mentions of Gertrude Moon - she's on a cruse for Christmas and therefore not in Seattle - Harry Moon, an indirect mention of Hester Crane, and mentions of Roz's mum Joanna and her dad. We learn they divorced when Roz was 7. Frasier has to buy Martin a new dancing Santa after destroying his old one in Ep 153 "The Fight Before Christmas", and Eddie is of course once again dressed in an awful Christmas outfit... :-)
