In 2001, we (the CHS Marching Band)  marched in the televised Marshall Field's Jingle Elf Parade in downtown Chicago.  Not too many bands get chosen for this, especially not ones from Iowa!
We left Carroll bright and early on wednesday and rode busses for 8 hours to the windy city.  Once we arrived at the Hyatt Regency in downtown, we went to a dinner and dance that the hotel hosted for all the students in the parade.  We were one of the bands with the latest cerfew, and had a blast!
Here's Me and Katie twirling in the parade to "Ode to Joy" the next morning.  We were cold until the parade got moving, and managed to perform rather well.  (Until we got to the TV zone and I have a zillion drops.  No one understands how hard baton twirling really is, especially when you're fingers are numb from the cold!)
After the parade, the band got a picture taken (see above) and we changed and headed to the Field Museum for the afternoon.  Everyone's Favorite Exibits:  Sue (the world's largest T-Rex), Egypt, and the traveling Star Wars Exhibit.  Here's me, and two of my underclassmen friends, Megan "Shorty" , and Amanda "Da" .
In the evening, we went to Disney Quest, which is like a Virtual Reality Disney theme park in a four story building.  I spent most of my time there playing Air Hockey with Adam (aka. Punkin, who later became my boyfriend months later).  He was undefeated for the whole night, no matter who he played.  Amanda at the time had a big crush on Adam, and was jealous of me spending so much time with him.  She had no reason to be jealous, though.  I was just spending time with him so he wasn't Mark and Rosie's third wheel.
When we got back to the hotel that night, Mark (being the party lover that he is) invited me and Rosie down to his room to hang out.  We opened up a bottle of nonalcholoic champagne, Mark and Rosie cuddled, Eggo went to sleep, and Adam and Beau were looking out the window to see if anyone was stripping infront of the window like the previous night.  The exciting part of the party was when the floor was under house arrest and the chaperones went around checking rooms.  Rosie and I had to hide in the shower.  Adam came in to make us laugh and blow our cover.  We really didn't want to see his "little friend."  though!
Here we are the fallowing morning on the top floor of the Sears Tower, trying to see how many people it takes on one side of the building to make it sway and tip over!
Here's Me, Adam, Mark and his at-the-time girlfriend, Roise, at the Hard Rock Cafe for dinner on our last day.  We were all pretty tired by this point in the trip, and most of us slept well on the way home!
