Note from his son Richard: I remember Pa talking about the Presidio and about the WPA. But what I don't understand is, according to his discharge records, Pa was discharged from the army at Fort Logan, Colorado, 26 May 1926. I wonder when he went to Ft Logan? Another army paper reads that he enlisted in the army in San Francisco 2 November 1920 for 3 years. I also have a record where Pa enlisted in the army 22 April 1915 at Columbus Barracks for 7 years. This must have been his first enlistment. William or as we called him Pa, worked for Towmotor Corporation in Cleveland, Ohio, as a Machine operator from 1943/44 until he retired in 1963. William and Ruby moved to Lehigh Acres, Florida, and had their first dream house built on November 15, 1964. William was a member of the Army and Navy Union, Post number 2, American Legion, 1762 East 17th Street, Cleveland, Ohio. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign War for many years in Ohio and Florida. |

Our parents casts long shadows over our lives. When we grow up, we imagine that we can walk in the sun, free from them. We don’t realize, until it’s too late, that we have no choice in the matter; They’re already ahead of us. We carry them within us all our lives- -in the shape of our face, the way we walk, the sound of our voice, our skin, our hair, our hands, our heart. We try all our lives to separate ourselves from them, and only when they are gone do we find we are indivisible. Contributed by Richard Gayle Weisert |
