West face of Mt. Edith Cavell from beautiful Astoria Campsite.  The campsite sits on a cliff overlooking the Astoria River. An inspiring breakfast view.
The bank down to Astoria River.  I remember it being steeper than it appears in the photo.  The feeling here is serene...quieting.
The junction with the trail to the Alpine Hut and Chrome Lake is just a bit out of Astoria Campsite. There is a bridge south across Astoria River.  The trail to Switchback Campsite continues north of the river.  It is a nice place to stop for water and trail mix.
One steep section of switchbacks takes me up out of the valley and away from the Astoria River.  A good view of Chevron Mtn Southeast from the switchbacks. The trail rises next to the rockslide in the photo.  That rock has come down from Oldhorn Mountain at an earlier time. Oldhorn is to the left, out of the picture.
