On the flat above the valley after the switchbacks hiking along the west slope of Oldhorn Mtn.  First view of the Ramparts enroute to Switchback Campsite.

Further along the trail and another breathtaking view of the Ramparts. It is flat and easy walking here.

Sky is clouding over and closing in.  I drop down to Clitheroe Campsite enroute to Surprise Point Campsite.  The Ramparts and Amethyst Lake. Just great!

I'm staying two nights at Surprise Point Campsite.  The first day has low cloud.  The mood of the Ramparts and the lake from the river, which exits the lake, is mysterious and ominous.  A cool softness in the air.
