Mustangs |
|
|
|
One of our favorite horse breeds is the Mustang. Spanish Mustangs, and BLM mustangs both. We have been fortunate enough to own three wonderful Mustangs. Our first was the BLM mare Myryha The Wind. (Yes, daughter Myryha is named for the horse.). She is 22 this year. The second mustang we worked with was adopted by a young friend of ours, and was trained and shown by her as a hunter pony. When she went to college, Crackers came to live with us. He too is 22 this year, growing older and grayer (and more mellow!) in peace at our farm. (see our Real Horses Page).
Our third Mustang was a fine old Grande Dame of horses. Isabeau d'Anjou had many good years with us, and when she began losing her sight, she had years of a loving home where she was taken care of by her family, 2 and 4-legged. She passed away in 2000 at the age of 30. Her photo can be found on our original Shadow's Castle Site. |

Mustangs do take extra care and training, but properly handled, there is no reason they can't be used like any other breed. We haven't the facilities or time to adopt new Mustangs now, so we must enjoy them in Model form.
