Brian Beckon
Dear Class of '82,

This past year has surely been a memorable one.  In March, I took my wife and kids on a vacation in China, which was the first visit there for all of us (if you don't count the Hong Kong trip our senior year), and my first time anywhere in Asia since 1982.  We visited Beijing, Suzhou, HongZhou and Shanghai; we climbed the Great Wall, took a rickshaw ride in Beijing's Hutong (the old part of the city), a boat ride on the canals in Suzhou (like Venice or Amsterdam), visited numerous gardens, and explored Shanghai's China Town (yes, believe it or not, Shanghai has a China Town, just as big cities here do).  We all had an absolutely wonderful time, especially the kids.  I'm enclosing a couple of pictures.

When we had a great summer, with all three of my kids competing on our local swim team.  Emily is now 12, Troy is 10, Tess is 6.  They followed the Olympics with particular interest, having recently seen some of the Olympics venues in Beijing.  We then found ourselves absorbed in the most fascinating presidential election cycle in anyone's memory, with a dramatically optimistic outcome.

Meanwhile, this is a time of transition for me professinoally, because the general counsel position I've held at RSF Social Finance for the past five years is being outsourced, probably as of sometime in January.  I don't know yet where I'm going to land, and of course that uncertainty in our current economy is not ideal, but I'm confident something good will develop.

I wish you all the happiest of holidays, and if any of you are ever passing through the San Francisco Bay Area, please give me a yell.

Best Regards
Brian
