After a good rest, our heroes decided to backtrack a bit and try to find out what happened to Roedyn and explore the citadel a bit more. Backtracking, they came upon the door leading into the caretaker’s quarters. Rykasha put her hand upon the door and pushed it open. A fireball of flame erupted from the door searing her skin. More weary now that they knew Belak had trapped the doorways, the group entered the room to find the remains of the caretaker. It appeared as if his eyes had been gouged out, and he had died from blood loss. Leaving the corpse, they proceeded to the octagonal rooms where the skeletons were turning over the compost. As they entered the rooms, they saw that the skeletons had fallen to the ground and were no longer moving. Alton performed last rights on the bodies and proceeded back into the sleeping chambers. As they entered this room, Rykasha carefully opened the door and was again blasted with the fireball trap. They entered the area, and were about to open the door leading to the prisoners that were tied up only a couple days prior, when they noticed a large pool of blood outside of the door where the prisoners had been held captive. When the door was opened, it was determined that the bodies had been mutilated, but the injuries appeared to be self inflicted. Disgusted with the trend of mutilated bodies, the party decided to sleep in the same room as a couple of days ago. They entered the confining space and spread out for a bit of a rest. Impossible to tell the time of day down here, the party awoke when everyone was rested, and proceeded to the room that led up to the upper levels and into the goblin king’s chambers. As they stepped in the room, they noticed a door heading to the north that they had missed earlier. Tai opened the door and they all stepped into room. Along the walls were racks of homemade weapons and armor. Each of the weapons appeared to be coated with blood and bodily matter from the extremely large corpse laying upon the earth. The body had a hat with antlers on it, and the wounds were inflicted by some kind of a beast with claws or talons. The smell from the bloated form was enough to make Tai want to leave, but Alton spotted a narrow crevice that opened up into a larger cave-like tunnel that continued on past his visual range. Just as the party was about the enter the tunnel, Killian spoke up and warned them against it. He said that there were dark tales of evil warriors who lived in caves deep underground where no light shown. The party heeded his warning, and they choose to climb up the vines in the adjacent room into the goblin king’s chambers. Before they began to climb, Alton cast some protective charms on his companions in hopes of keeping them out of danger. They reached the top of the vines without incident and found that the King’s chambers were empty. To their left, the room which was identified as the goblin’s common room, was busling with activity. Sounds of jeering and shouting could be heard plainly from where the adventurers stood. Not wanting to press their good fortune, they took to the hallway and proceeded to go around the common room from the north and ended up in the long hallway filled with smoke and dragon shaped pillars. Expecting to see patrolling guards, the party was surprised to see that the only two guards here were busy peering in on the party happening in the common rooms, and not paying attention to the area. Wanting to see what all the commotion was about, Tai crept up behind the two guards and peered past them into the room. She was taken aback when she saw an older female human tied to a wooden stump being beaton for the amusement of the goblin tribe. She took her information back to the hiding party and they deliberated on what to do, and how to go about freeing the beaten prisoner. The party was split on how to proceed with the situation, so Rykasha cast her bones and asked for help from her ancestors. Her ancestors spoke to her by showing her a flash of Tai’s face indicating that her plan was the correct choice. She was also assaulted with a vision of a red horned humanoid shape who hovered in her perception for a moment and then vanished. Not sure what to make of it all, the party now knew what course of action to take. Rykasha donned her full war makeup and head dress and asked her traveling companions to follow her lead. She then walked out of their hiding place and right through the two astonished guards who were standing outside the main hall. Not meeting the eyes of any except the Goblin King, Rykasha addressed him in a loud voice that left no argument as to who was in charge. The Goblin King cowered in front of her and granted all of her requests. Rykasha demanded the release of all prisoners including the woman strapped to the post. She demanded the release of the dragon Calcryx and safe passage through the goblin controlled areas. Five prisoners were escorted into the room. Three of them were lizard folk, and two of them were humanoid. Erky Timbers, a gnome cleric, and a halfling wizard who immediately began showing his usefulness by translating for the party, were released under their care of Rykasha. Durn, the Goblin King, said that if they wanted Calcryx, they would have to retrieve it themselves, and the party agreed. |
