During that evenings travel, our heroes circled the wagon close and built a fire to ward away the cold. Still basking in the glory of his new found powers, Reverend Alton turned to his followers, Gizur and Eyestein who had been wounded by the Gobbers’ attack, and laid his hands upon them while calling upon the recently restored power of Pelor. To each of them he healed the wounds within. He then turned to Rykasha, who had been suffering involuntary shivering attacks at night. To her he removed the poison that had been plaguing her system for so many months. Thrilled to have the Reverend at his full capacity, the mood of the camp was light and full of conversation. The Preacher, LoBan and the terror being faced in Gelsmug was momentarily forgotten by the adventurers as they talked through the first part of the night. When dawn came, Alton prayed for his spells again, and was granted. He then turned his healing power upon himself as the party was steadily moving eastward towards the Engine nation. Around noon of the sixth day of traveling, Naphistra, who had been scouting up ahead reported to the party that she had seen a strange light coming from ahead. As they approached, they saw a fifteen-foot wall of blue flame dancing in the wind. The wall extended as far north and south as they could see on the horizon. They approached the wall, dismounted from the wagon, and came closer to investigate. Alton cast his ability to sense magical energies in the area. As he did so, the spell seemed to flash like an explosion, and the spell ended. Unaware of what that meant, he reported it to the rest of the party. As soon as he finished speaking, green oozing creatures resembling beasts rose up from the ground around them. Hungrily they stared at the magical items each of the party members were carrying. At first, the beasts did nothing, and naphistra and Tai stepped away from them seemingly ignored. In the next instant, they rushed into the party, grappling them to the ground. Three fell on Killian and were attempting to wrestle his belongings from him while Tai raced back into the frey and tried to pry them from him. Alton and Naphistra attempted to use their magical abilities to defeat the foes. Naphistra attempted to speak to the animals in their own native tongue. As she was about to speak, the magical energy used during the course of the spell backfired and Naphistra found herself lying on her back unsure of what just happened. Alton called a searing light from the heavens. The light fell, but with much more force than was expected and blew three of the creatures into dust. As the fighting was taking place, the oozing animals were trying desperately to latch on to the magical items each character carried. Gizur took Shatterspike, Sir Bradford’s magical sword, and swung down on a snake coiled over it. As soon as the snake was destroyed the other creatures dissipated into the ground and seemingly evaporated. Distressed by the happenings and taking no chances, our heroes threw their magical items over the blue fire wall and leapt through it coming out unscathed on the other side. Within a few minutes, they were on their way heading east once more. As they came closer to the town of Tesko Suicide, they began to see more and more signs of the Engine nation. Sentries lined rock cropings all around, and bleached bones of those who tried to cross littered some areas. When they finally entered into the town of Tesko, they were greeted with strange buildings that had obviously at one point been moving wagons, but had been built into more solid structures. None of the buildings were labeled save the General Store. An older gentleman was sitting in a chair made from wooden planks and wagon wheels. He waved at the travelers and bid them come over. They spoke to the man who was named Jules. He welcomed them to Tesko, and offered them a room for the night. They inquired about Roedyn, and he paused for a moment and said that he was currently sitting in the barber’s shop. Jules told them that he was hurt pretty badly. Without waiting for Jules to finish the story, the party went strait to the barber’s shop and found a man by the name of Smithik who runs the barber. Smithik said that he was sleeping now and shouldn’t be disturbed. He explained that the stranger came into Tesko a little while back using a sword for a cane. He had broken a big bone in his leg and the damage he did during the walk into town was worse than the original break. After a bit of talking, Smithik led the adventurers into the back room and there, laying down with a hugely swollen leg lay the man they had been searching for 3 months to find; Roedyn. |
