The Sumerians had a strong system of law and order. The laws were made by the elders in each city-state but the kings was essencially in control. The Sumerians had the first ever collection of laws in 2060BC in Ur Nammu's Code. Their system of law included specialist judges, judges could order the damages be paid to the victim and testimonies given under oath. The Sumerians were firm believers of the idea of an eye for an eye. No matter what, the punishment was always proportionate to the crime. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
