     A pesar de tratarse de temas ya conocidos, este album no entra en la categoria de "Grandes Exitos" ya que son nuevas versiones regrabadas de canciones popularizadas por Thalia pero en un nuevo genero, a parte de esto Thalia lo promocionó en todas partes y fue nominado a distintos premios en categorias donde los discos de grandes exitos no pueden entrar. La idea surge cuando EMI decide lanzar un album de exitos y alguien le propone a Thalia que sean al estilo banda (musica tradicional mexicana), a ella le fascino la idea y decidió incluir dos temas ineditos escritos por ella misma. Este album fue muy criticado, alabado y exitoso, Thalia llevo la musica mexicana a paises donde no se conocia ese genero, en Grecia alcanzo el primer lugar de ventas. Con este album Thalia recibe su tercera nominacion al Premio Grammy Latino en la categoria "Mejor album banda".

     This album isnt in the "Greatest hits" section because all the songs were recorded again and in a different music style, also Thalia promoted this album everywhere and it was nominated for different awards in categories were the greatest hits albums arent allowed. In 2001 EMI was planning the released of a greatest hits album but someone suggested to make new versions of her hits in banda style (mexican regional sound), she loved the idea and wrote two new songs for the album. This album was successful around the world, in countries like Greece where the mexican music is unknown Thalia reached the number one place and she received her third nomination to the Latin Grammy Awards in the "Best banda album" category.

     It's bizarre at first to hear Mexican diva Thalia's biggest pop hits adorned with blaring horns and oompah beats, but she ultimately pulls it off on Banda Thalia Grandes Exitos. Thalia has enlisted a solid lineup of musicians and producers for the project, but this is hardly banda music in its purest form. Cumbia and pop rhythms regularly find their way into many of the tracks. The slick collection revisits--and reimagines--Thalia's most successful singles since joining EMI Latin in 1995, making for an uneven but interesting project. Tracks such as the already festive "Amor a la Mexicana" and "Por Amor" work well within the traditional banda setting, while ballads "Quiero Hacerte el Amor" and "Entre el Mar y una Estrella" drag a bit and are best showcased in their original arrangements. "Arrasando," the title track off Thalia's stellar 2000 album, is sapped of its energy, but the inclusion of traditional gems "Cuco Pena" and "La Revancha" is a genuine treat. Through it all, Thalia remains an authoritative--and irresistible--presence. --Joey Guerra
