According to Webster's Dictionary, truth is the state or quality of being true, something which is true, accurate, in agreement with fact, or correct. In Greek the word means the reality lying at the basis of an appearance; the manifested, veritable essence of a matter.
Truth is of inestimable value. How can we put a price on it? A lie or an error is the opposite of truth. If I don't have truth, then I do not have fact. If I build on a lie or on an error, I build a house that can fall.
Without truth, i.e., without verifiable fact, I am in darkness without direction. Any formula based upon an error can never provide a correct answer. The consequences of a lie or an error may, at times, appear to be inconsequential, but the consequences can at times, be catastrophic. Truth is the difference between life and death, light and darkness, and heaven and hell.
Truth is never unimportant. The truth is absolute. We must never color, shade, or slant the truth. We must never compromise or sell the truth. If we compromise truth it will lead to a cynicism that asks, "What is truth?"
The Bible is truth. The Bible is the infallible Word of God, and God doesn't lie or make mistakes. Above all, there must be truth in worship of God and in service to God. Consider the words of John 4:23-24, but the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Sincerity is not enough. Passion, alone, is not enough. Good intentions are not enough. Good works are not enough. Being faithful in religion, by itself, is not enough. If I am to be one of God's true worshippers, I must worship in spirit and in truth.
Consider the following: relative to the revelation of the mighty God in
Jesus, the Bible says in John 8:32, And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. Colossians 2:9-10 refers to Jesus Christ and says, For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.
Relative to New Birth salvation, the Bible says in John 3:5, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. And in Acts 2:38 the Bible says, Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
These are absolute inviolable truths. If we are to be saved, we must believe and obey these truths. You need the Holy Ghost to be saved and to be a child of God. See Romans 8:9 where it says, if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. Consider John 16:13 where it refers to the Holy Ghost and says, Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth is come, he will guide you into all truth.
God did not mean for you to wander blindly in the hunt for truth. He freely offers you his Spirit to lead and guide you in all truth. Buy the truth and sell it not. Treasure the truth. Stand for the truth. Live and die for the truth.
