New building for the college of Yy Neethu and Yy Panchami
Kerala Chief Minister, VS Achuthanandan inaugurated the new building of LBS Institute of Technology for Women at Trivandrum on 27 Feb 2007. Yy. Neethu handed over to him the lamp to light the nilavilakku marking the inauguration. Neethu is seen second from the left in the photo.

On 24 Feb, Satheesh and Lekha went for another backwater trip. This was at Kollam, along with the staff of Toonz Academy.

Club participates in Area-Fest
Ymt. Lekha Satheesh and Ylg. Neethu S Nair represented the Club at the India Area Fest at Baywatch, Kanyakumari on 27 Jan 2007. They presented Thiruvathirakkali and a group dance with members of the Queens Club. Neethu presented a solo dance also.
As well as several prominent leaders from India Area, many leaders from the region, including RD Ym. Lukos, DG Ym. Chacko, former district 1 DG Yw. Pushpa Balan and ASD Yw. Jessey Harilal, also participated. See more photos here. All these beautiful snaps were taken by Yw. Jessy Harilal, who is hence not seen in any of the photos.
Ym. Achuthan and Ymt. Mallika hosted the March 07 meeting of the club at their residence at Vazhottukonam. The meeting was well-attended as most of the schools had closed and exams ended. Ym. Prof. CD Ayyappan Pillai and Ymt. Saradamony had come after a long while. So had the family of Col. Pillai. Currently on a brief holiday from Saudi Arabia, Ym. Benson also attended the meeting. He plans to travel back in April. Ymt. Seena had brought her brother's children along with her to attend the meeting.
The members congratulated Ylg. Abin Alex who secured National Talent Search scholarship. The President Ym. George Varghese made a special mention and greeted Abin with flowers. The Secretary Ym. Benny K Mani presented the Club Report. Dr. Abraham K Joshua's speech on Health in all its forms - physical, mental, social and spiritual - triggered a very energetic discussion with wide participation. A vegetarian dinner followed. Mouth-watering picnic to the Kuttanad backwaters, Alappuzha!
The picnic to the Kuttanad backwaters on 11 Feb proved out-of-the-world. Very enjoyable and rejuvenating. Twelve families participated - 9 ladies, 11 men and 11 children.
The team arrived Alappuzha from Trivandrum by Janasadabdi Express. Boating started at 10.30 am from the Nehru Trophy finishing point at the jetty. After an exhilarating backwater ride including onboard lunch and snacks the team returned to the Jetty by 5 pm. The return journey was also by the Janasadabdi, arriving Trivandrum by 9.25 pm. Seena selected at TV contest
Ymt. Seena was selected at the first round of the Amrita TV Vanita Ratna competition held in Trivandrum on 14 Mar 07. Seena performed her classical Navarasa and Ammooma shows at the competition. For a report in the Hindu dated 30 Mar 07, click here.
Kuriens host and sponsor Jan meet
14 Jan 07: The monthly meeting for Jan 2007 was held today at the residence of Kurien Job. 14 Jan is a very special date - Makara Sankranti / pongal / winter solstice - the day, which is the shortest in the year for people in the northern hemisphere, when the sun begins its northward journey.
All families except those of Asha, Anita, Achuthan and CD Ayyappan Pillai attended the meeting. The presence of Ys youth Nishel (Bangalore), Anand, Tracy, Panchami and Neethu added life and colour to the evening.
PC Thomas made a speech about India's recent launch of PSLV C-7 and answered questions. In particular he mentioned about India's first attempt at planned re-entry of one of the modules which were launched recently. This module, which is expected to return to earth on 22 Jan is carrying several instruments which PC's department has developmed and constructed. We all join PC in wishing and praying that these instruments arrive safely without any hitch.
The cultural presentations included songs by Twinkle, Sandra, Ganga, Harita and dances by Santwana, Neethu and Cyriac Thomas (Kuriappan).
The dinner was sponsored by the Kuriens as a celebration of their son Job's debut into the world of professional singing. Members thanked the Kuriens and were a little disappointed that they could not meet Job as he was away in Colombo, singing alongside Mridula and Vineet Sreenivasan.

Ym. VS Bashir is IP Elect
Ym. VS Bashir from Kollam is on his way to the supreme post in Ysdom, the International President. Hearty Congratulations to Ym. Bashir. Our club wishes him the very best during his tenure at the helm of the movement.
Ym. Bashir is currently the India Area President. Earlier he was the Regional Director of the South West India Region, to which our club belongs.
Kurien Job to be the Club President for Ys Year 2007-08
24 Jan 07: At the Board meeting held at the residence of President Ym. George Varghese, Kurien Job has been unanimously nominated to the post of Club President for 2007-08. Ym Alexander will be the Vice President. Ym. Benny and Ym. Prasad Varghese will continue as Secretary and Treasurer respectively.
The President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Mennettes club will be Ymt. Rosamma Kurien, Ymt. Merene Benny and Ymt. Yamuna Varghese.
The Ys Lings Club will be headed by Ylg. Rijo Alex as President and Ylg. Tania Benson as Secretary.
Ymt Seena Thomas takes lead in organising Nexus 2007
26 Jan 2007: Ymt Seena Thomas, as part of the Executive Committee for Nexus 2007, organised a highly successful Old Students' Meet at her School, Nirmala Bhavan, in Thiruvananthapuram. She was also responsible for the food and beverages. As part of the event, Seena had earlier distributed prizes to the current students for various cultural activities.
Our menettes, Ymt Asha Ajay, Ymt Lekha Satheesh and Ymt Anitha Sunil are also old students of the School. Ylg Shilpa was a student there till two years ago. Ylg. Annie is currently studying there.
Asha presented two beautiful songs at the occasion.
KG Satheesh Kumar is the National Secretary of IEEE for 2007
Ym. KG Satheesh Kumar of YMC Vattiyoorkavu is the 2007 Secretary of the India Council of the IEEE.
The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.) is the world's largest professional society with a history of 122 years. Started on 13 May 1884 in New York, the IEEE has had among its members, luminaries like Thomas Alwa Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, Marconi, Shannon, John Bardeen (the only person to be awarded two Nobel Prizes for Physics) and so on. The IEEE has close to 25,000 members in India.
Mr. Satheesh Kumar was earlier the Chairman of IEEE Kerala Section during the years 2000 and 2001. In 2005, he was awarded the Asia Pacific Outstanding Volunteer Award. The award was presented in Chiang Mai, Thailand. .

10 Feb 2007: Neethu dances at Dhoom as part of the LBS team
The LBS team qualified at the preliminary round on 10 Feb and came in the Top-10 at the Rosebowl TV dance competition, "Dhoom", held at Tagore theatre, Trivandrum. See clips of this (first day's) dance at this link. Yy. Neethu had trained the team for this performance.
LBS, however, did not make it to the Top-3 at the finals on 11 Feb.
