Pictures of Galapagos Page 3

Yep...you guessed it...more marine iguanas.

It was amazing to see so many iguanas so often. You really had to pay attention not to step on one. Like all the other wild life, they do not fear man. They don't know what humans are. Their only regard for you is that of another iguana. So if you enter their "space" they will challenge you with a head bob. And if that does not stop you dead in your tracks *L* they will bob their head again. Also notice that most of them are pointing towards the sun with their heads held up. They are warming themselves after feeding in the cold water. So between the communal sun worship and the head bobbing they are rather comical little creatures.

This is a Galapagos Hawk. It is one of the only land predators found here. This is one time I had to use the zoom. But only because it was far off the path. On each island, there are only one or two paths that the guides use. Sometimes the trail width is restricted to two feet. How the guides know exacly where those two feet are I don't know, but they do! They go to great lengths to protect this unique and fragile ecosystem.

Like I said, the animals are not afraid of you. But these crabs sure did not like their picture taken. You can see the picture is blurred because it is running for cover. This was the best shot of ten tries. It still is not the best angle to show all their colors. There is a lot of blue on their backs.
