How long it has been since I was given a 'surprise' February M.A.Y Paschal D'Souza Things I want to say: I wrote my first poem when I was 7 years old in Grade 1; it was 1995. It was on the colour 'white.' My teacher sent me to the principal (I honestly thought I had done something wrong for a while). It really was no wondrous piece of writing, but I guess Sister Lucy (principal) saw some talent so she asked me to write one in her office. As happy as I was to miss a period of English Literature, I was scared to death and honestly believed (and I still to date) that I was the first Grade 1 student to have sat on the principal's desk in my school (I guess the office was considered a sort of a "holy sanctuary" by us kids). So I wrote one of the colour 'orange' Well, so I decided to put my old poems on (still a work in construction). I don't know what happened. Some six years ago, writing poems used to be so easy. Some would tell me to pick up a quote, a saying, and just make one up, and I did. Now, it just takes too much out of me. |
