Intro

Hi We are John and Lynne Coates.   We welcome you to share our experiences in completing this project... before we continue on our sailing adventures...

Short History

We started our sailing fairly late in life when we fitted out a 33 foot production cruiser/racer hull and deck, according to the style of the time in the mid 80's.  We were in our 30's and busy with family and career.  We always had the sailing dream from a young age  and when we launched we thought this was the ultimate achievement.  Only the best materials were used as per the magazine articles, armchair advisors etc. with plastic, stainless and and allu. on the exterior and with minimum brightwork.  The boat was a lot of fun and many pleasant holidays and weekends were had by all.  Children eventually went off to university etc. and we had the opportunity to take early retirement!  This was it!  WOW!  We packed up home into storage and moved onto the boat to cruise the world.  We left Durban, South Africa, sailing down the east coast and by the time we arrived through the heads in Knysna , we were experienced enough to realize that the family cruiser/racer was not quite designed for long term live-aboard cruising.   Knysna has a long history of yacht building with many experts around, plus the fact that the Knysna forests were right here helped us decide to change boats here and build in wood.   Besides, this little town was far too beautiful to rush.
