There are many reasons to why us Budgies bite humans. I used to bite, but not anymore!

Fear

If we are frightened, afraid or feel threatened, we bite in order to protect ourselves. We may be only 7 inches tall but we pack a big bite! :D So try to be really gentle, and coo and whisper to us if you think we're going to bite.

Territory

Sometimes we just want some things to ourselves. Such things as toys, our cage and a mate is often frequently over protected by us parakeets. We may bite, because we think you're going to take them away. Some of us don't want your hand in our cage, because we feel that is this OUR house. No tresspassers allowd! :D

Hormonal Stages

Sometimes, we go through our hormonal stages and we tend to be more moody and cranky! (Just like you human teens :D) We want to rebel against our parents (You) and we want to be independent. Sometimes we tend to bite because we want to test how far we can push you! Tee-hee

How to stop it

Please do not hit, yell, scream or bang on our cage. That even gets us more angry and feared of you. You may lose our trust, and we may be scarred for life. Here is how you can stop us from biting. Try to distract or comfort your pet by talking to him, or playing music. (I like Classical BEST!) Also do not SCREAM or hit your budgie. If your budgies bite hurts a lot, use a perch FIRST, then have him step unto your finger. Be sure to use the phrase "Step up"
