JK Imposes "Marshall" Law: Whips Stroupe Again

Stroupe had his fun for a little while Sunday, and then about 4:15 pm, "Marshall" law went into effect. JK's Marshall Faulk scored 4 TDs (26 points) and JK was able to cruise past Stroupe. Also in the late game, Elvis Grbac was able to quickly match the 3 TDs put up by Stroupe's Peyton Manning. The 67-42 pounding is (4-5) Stroupes' fourth loss in a row and fifth in a row to JK. Because of the high score, both Stroupe and (3-5-1) JK continue to hang on ther points qualifier slots.

Trade, What Trade: Moses 43 Wallace 42

The week two deal that sent Tryone Wheatley and Albert Connell from Wallace to Moses was supposed to be a big factor in this game. It wasn't. Both players turned in "0" point performaces. Shocking, considering "Fat Albert's" 23 point game the week before. This game was in fact over early. Both Wallace and Moses were probably glued to the set Sunday night waiting for the "explosion" between Rich Gannon and Wheatley That didn't happen.

Wallace did get points from Edgerrin James, Corey Dillon and Derrick Alexander. On trade did make a difference for Moses and that was the Ron Dayne for Tennessee QBs deal with Best. Dayne had 8 points.

Bud wins Rematch

Last year when it mattered, Steve Beuerlein threw five TDs as Best defeated BUD 79-48. This year Beuerlein threw 0 and Bud wins rematch: 47-27. Considerably less was at stake in week 9. Bud does sole possession of first place in the East and Best fails to capitalize on a chance to move into second in the central.

Many Happy Returns for Outlaw

In what was supposed to be the Shocker of the week, Outlaw trailed Czupryna by 35-24 going into Monday night's game. Outlaw had Tennessee D and CZ had a well-dressed Yancy Thigpen (in Street Clothes). After getting trice this year on unlikely Monday comebacks, it was finally Outlaw's turn. Tennessee's D returned a punt and an interception for touchdowns in teh first half and Outlaw had his comeback and got to go to bed early.

Do you think we'll see another week like week 8? Corey Dillon breaks the single game rushing record, Wallace fails to win despite scoring 68 points. JK loses with 60 and Jackson and Moses stage improbable Monday comebacks when what was supposed to be a defensive struggle turns into a 40-37 OT game. The highest scoring BRFL week ever.

There's some other prognosticator in the forum who claims to be better. "Chris Berman", huh? So I had a bad week: 3-3 last week to go to 27-20-1.

Deitrich (5-3) vs Best (4-3-1)

Too bad these guys didn't face off last week. A 77-77 game would have been one for the ages. Knowing Bud, he's probably obsessing over leaving Lamar Smith on the pine. Smith's 16 points in place of say, James Allen would have given Bud a league record 92.

The "Trent Green era" begins for Bud. Kurt Warner's broken pinky will sideline him for four to six weeks. This week it will probably be impossible to tell the difference as the Rams visit San Francisco where a 77-77 game is possible there.

For Best perhaps he's feeling a little deja vu. Last year, midseason, he was hovering around the .500 mark then played Wallace and Bud and saw his team jell to run the table. The Bud game was a loss, but a 59-51 shootout. When does Best take the wraps off Steve McNair? Facing Baltimore last week, McNair threw only one score. This week, the Titans stay in the mid Atlantic region and face the Redskin D. It could be another week for Steve Beuerlein. Best is 4-0 against former league champs and winless against those who haven't won the big one. (Like Bud).

Although these teams were both very potent last week, Bud lives in this neighborhood. Best was just visiting.

Wallace (5-3) vs Moses (4-4)

Mosey pulled one out of his hindquarters last Monday night. He did it without any points from his starting New Orleans QB, while his benched QB, the Jets went off with 31 points. Also on the pine was Albert Connell with 23 points. This week Connell and Tyrone Wheatley meet the team that drafted them and discarded them after week 2: Wallace. This could be the biggest fleecing since Jackson weaseled Fred Taylor from a groggy Peil. Ron Dayne takes the field this week. We shall see if he explodes in the same fashion as his backfield mates Wheatley and James Stewart did after being acquired by Moses in trades.

Wallace comes off his annual beating by Best with the confidence that if he can continue to score over 50, he should have no problem advancing to the playoffs. Likely another 68 point week won't result in a loss. Let's see what Corey Dillon can due for an encore. He faces Cleveland this week. Not known a a run stuffer. Look for Wallace to prove to Moses that he didn't give up the whole team.

Stroupe (4-4) vs Jones-Klingman (2-5-1)

There are rivalries in the league and then there is THIS rivalry. In recent weeks Stroupe has been sinking faster than the stocks we feature on this page. What better than a win over a hated rival to erase the memory of a three game slide.

Hard luck JK who has lost games scoring 55,56 and 60 this year has a little consulation. He's scoring enough to make a points slot in the playoffs (as is Stroupe). Marshall Faulk is a little banged up (other than yakking on the field), so JK SR'ed Justin Watson.

The pick here is Stroupe for no other reason than it is about time. About time to end this three game slide and about time to beat JK. (He hasn't since 1995).

Outlaw (4-4) vs Czupryna (1-7)

I just can't get whipped into any sort of excitement over this game. Aside from the fact that the old man has dropped 7 straight. A little reseach shows that the winner of this game has failed to score over 31 points 8 times. That's good news for Outlaw. Twice he's scored in the 50's only to be burned in improbable Monday night comebacks.

Barry (5-3) vs Dahlin-Bethea (5-3)

These two first place teams were flying high a couple weeks ago, now they are feeling the heat. AB's got two teams a half game back. DB's seen one of the three stooges (Moe) come up and make a challenge. Barry finally got the Redskin QB's on track. Terrell Owens might be able to mop up some TDs against the Rams. The DB's face a serious bye with Denver and New England. Their "Horse", Eddie George may stay in the stable this week with a knee sprain. The DB's three losses this season have been to the three last place teams. Barry first place team. So much for a trend.

Ricker (5-3) vs Jackson (3-5)

Ricker has won four in a row. His Vike combo, following the script of 1998, might find a tough game in Tampa. That season the 7-0 Vikes lost to the 3-4 Bucs in week 9 in Tampa. With diminished output from the Vikes, Ricker is pretty worthless.

Jackson has found some success picking up the flavors of the week. This week: Miami QBs and Leslie Shepard. It's good to see Calvin spending money again. It's the key to success.
