2000 BRFL Week 10 Results

Moses held his breath Monday night as the Culpepper/Moss duo was held in check. The result was a 54-37 Win over Ricker. That coupled with a loss by the DB's put Moses in sole possession of first place in the East. "Trader Moe" - who looked like a laughing stock in week 1, has really turned is team around. Ricker falls out of second in the East with that loss and Best's win. Currently All Four Central teams are in the playoffs as Ricker becomes a points qualifier.

Calvin may be cursing the QB bonus point rule. His creation. The two bonus points Bud's St Louis QB earned to go along with (only) two TDs closed the difference in this game: a 44-all It is the second tie this year (best tied JK 27-27 in week 1). Jackson SR'ed and started Buffalo QBs and the New Orleans D (Interesting had he started his regular defense, Denver, he would have won). Speaking of Denver, Terrell Davis, Jackson's top pick came back from injury and scored his first points of year. "Trader Moe" was hot after Davis, but Jackson held his ground.

In the battle of two teams trying to avoid a third consecutive loss, The winner is Wallace 70-53 over Dahlin Bethea. Rich Gannon tossed 4 TDs and Edgerrin James and Derrick Alexander scored twice. 70 is the most scored by Wally this season. The DBs have lost their third straight game and have fallen out of first place for the first time since week 2. Their effort was better as Brian Griese came off his bye sober and tossed two to Ed McCaffery.

Stroupe squeaks by a punch less Barry 21-15. It was not without one anxious moment. Right after Robert Smith scored on a 45 yard pass play, Green Bay return a kickoff down to the 2 yard line. Had the kick off gone the distance, Barry would have won. As it was, no Monday night Miracle this week. Quite unusual for this year.

Research can be both good and bad. You can not do enough or you can do too much. As it turned out untrained monkeys could have picked better starters for these two clowns, (as long as they started Stephen Davis and Curtis Martin). Idiot Best stayed home Sunday with a sick daughter and had time for for some last minute tinkering. CZ left some valuable points on the pine: Had he known that Eric Bjornson was not going to suit up, he could have inserted Ricky Dudley. Sebastian Janokowski did not play because of a foot problem. Best pulled JR Redmond because he found out late Sunday morning about a foot problem, but Redmond played and scored. Best also pulled Steve Beuerlein in favor of Steve McNair. Best lucks his way into second in the central with a 31-26 win. Cz, humilated again, has his ninth straight loss. One way from the league record.

JK is on a roll. They have scrored 60 points for the third straight week. This week they have crushed Outlaw 64 - 48. All this without weapon number 1, Marshall Faulk, who will miss three more weeks after knee surgery. JK, the league's ultimate vultures, already has his backup, Justin Watson.

The mystery surrounding the identity of the mysterious "swamii" continues. He has assumed the identity of ESPN announce Chris Berman and he was rumbling, bumbling, STUMBLING last weekend, going 2-4 with his picks. Meanwhile I was 4-2. And my upset winner, Calvin, game through.

Season total: 31-22-1. Swamii: 7-5

Deitrich (6-3) vs Jackson (4-5)

Jackson's coming off a two game win streak, faces Bud, who finally has the best record in the league go with his outrageous point total. Bud has Trent Green at home versus the Panthers. The Panthers are not that generous on defense, but they are a terrible dome team. Expect Green to get his licks with Marshall Faulk nicked up.

Jackson may get back Terrell Davis this week, which would force Bud to sit Mike Anderson. At this point no one knows how Davis will do, in two previous games he was supposed to be back, he's performed little, if at all. Nevertheless, Jamal Anderson and Slingin' Sammy Morris have been playing well and should start for Jackson.

I expect Bud to win, but a toned down Bud. 35 should win this game, and Bud won't have much more than that. Swamii likes Bud

Wallace (5-4) vs Dahlin-Bethea (5-4)

Todd as an OU Cheerleader <-- The Db's resort to desperate measures to end the their two game slide

Win-hungry Wallace knows he can't fall to far back in the standings as Outlaw looms. Despite 110 points in his last two games, Wally has nothing but "L's" to show for it. No reason to be losing. His team is playing well, James and Dillon are getting TDs, Derrick Alexander has been scoring. Oakland QBs will not get shutdown this week.

The DBs will be checking all their fantasy sources to get a read on the health of Eddie George. "The Horse" is coming up lame. First its the knee, then the ankle and now the toe. Rodney Thomas waits in the wings. And now there is an SR of Mario Bates, the latest in a long line of Detroit TD vultures. Now if they can keep Brian Griese out of the bars...

One of these teams will be going down for their third straight game. The guess here is it won't be Wallace. Swamii likes DB

Stroupe (4-5) vs Barry (6-3)

It's been a season of streaks for Stroupe: Four straight wins, followed by four straight losses.

For AB its a breakthrough season. He has never won more than 6 games in a year. He hasn't beaten Stroupe since 1995. A win this week very significant. It won't happen.

Stroupe has better match-ups than AB this week. Swamii likes Stroupe

Outlaw (5-4) vs Jones-Klingman (3-5-1)

The battle of the hard-luck, last-place teams. Outlaw and JK. If both of these teams had won their games where they scored over 50 points, both these teams would be either in first or tied for first.

After being on the wrong end of a couple Miracle Mondays, Outlaw pulled off a major miracle of his owen when Tennessee scored two defensive TDs to spare Outlaw a loss to last place CZ. He faces a last place team this week in JK.

JK's has an interesting QB choice, both his QB face their arch-rivals. KC at Oakland and Green Bay plays the Vikes at home. The backfield of Ricky Williams and Marshall Faulk is probably the league's best 1-2 bunch. Much better than the struggling duo of Emmitt Smith, Fred Taylor. JK should end his three game losing streak to Outlaw. Swamii likes JK

Ricker (5-4) vs Moses (5-4)

Moses has been on a roll. Call him "Mo" as in momentum. Three straight wins. Whatever became of "Grandma". This week, Moses has been networking with Calvin for Terrell Davis. Acquiring running backs has become an obsession.

As the Vikes go, so goes Ricker. The Vikes went down last week and Randy Moss got in trouble for another altercation with an official. The penalty was only a fine, not a suspension, which could serve to motivate Moss. The fact that he's playing on Monday night against Green Bay should motivate him more. And that's good news for Ricker. Swamii likes Ricker
Ricker seems content with his winning team ->

Best (4-4-1) vs Czupryna (1-8)

There is more at stake this week than this match of old rivals. The entire future of the country hangs in the balance: The outcome of this game could predict the presidential election:
  • 1988 Best sweeps CZ 3-0, George Bush elected president
  • 1992 CZ sweeps Best 3-0 George Bush defeated.
  • 2000 George W. Bush is running for president. Backs Best in this game.
Yet. Try this on for size:
  • 1988 Best sweeps CZ 3-0, The incumbant party takes the presidency
  • 1992 CZ sweeps Best 3-0, The incumbant party loses the presidency
  • 1996 Best sweeps CZ 2-0, The incumbant party takes the presidency
  • 2000 Al Gore of the incumbant party is running for president. Backs Best in this game.
Confused. The only thing clear is that both parties want Best to win. Swamii likes CZ
