USS CHESAPEAKE (NCC-31813)
Hood-Class Light Cruiser (CL)
Tactical Squadron 33, Green Fleet
=================================

The CHESAPEAKE returned to SB DELTA after its engagement against
a Romulan threat force at Serrat III, with the assistance of the
USS BURKE and USS Tanikaze. Upon arrival, the SFE damage
assessment team and the Green Fleet brass decided that she should
be put into repair-and-refit early. A new Hiryu-class cruiser
would be assigned to TACRON-33, with Romee in command, and at her
request, would be named the CHESAPEAKE-A.

Twelve days later, a Captain Thomas Martin, of the Epsilon Indi
Shipyard, arrived at DELTA on the USS Searcher, soon to be
renamed the CHESAPEAKE-A. Martin had been looking forward to
commanding the Searcher and overlooking the final trials at the
shipyard when he had received the transfer orders. He was
disappointed, but had come dutifully to hand the ship over to
Romee.

In the meantime, Romee had been requested by ch'Rihan that she
present testimony regarding Serrat III, and Star Fleet's
Diplomatic Corps and JAG assigned some personnel to accompany
here there. She was to go for a week, with Martin taking over
the shakedown cruise with her crew.

Romee left aboard the Shuttlecraft Freeport, with an
Ambassador and his attache, two JAG officers, and a very green
shuttle pilot named Colt Fleetwood, and soon after, the new
CHESAPEAKE left for a week of shakedown under the command of
Captain Martin.

Martin's temporary crew had just begun tests of the CHESAPEAKE's
defense systems when they heard word that the Freeport had gone
missing on the other side of the Federation/Romulan Neutral Zone.
Despite direct orders to continue the shakedown tests, and a
suspicious calling-off of a Federation search-and-rescue
operation for the Freeport's recovery, CDR Malveo, together
with LTjg Justen, took a shuttle into the Neutral Zone, leaving
Martin with no choice but to give chase.

Although an accident in Engineering slowed her down, the
CHESAPEAKE finally managed to catch up with the Shuttlecraft
Bounty, but not before she entered the Neutral Zone herself.
To make matters even more interesting, Malveo led a mutiny as
soon as he returned aboard, insisting that he and Justen had
found the key clues to the Freeport's whereabouts.

The Freeport had encountered a space anomaly and had drifted,
crippled, in Romulan space. Romee and Fleetwood, with some
help from one of the JAG officers, managed to cobble together
just enough repairs to get them to a Class-M, aquatic planet --
but not before they had to knock the ever-increasingly
dangerous Ambassador unconscious.

The CHESAPEAKE arrived soon after, and Martin ordered SAR
shuttles to the planet. Just as one of the shuttles found the
Freeport, they were both swallowed up by a whale-like creature,
with communication blocked to and from the CHESAPEAKE.

The SAR shuttle and the Freeport manage to establish
communication. They decide to abandon the damaged Freeport
and get her personnel over to the SAR shuttle. After some
challenges trying to align the two shuttles within the
increasingly violent whale's belly, they all manage to
get aboard -- just in time, as the whale, sickened by the
exhaust expelled to steer the two shuttles, chucked them
all out into the water.

They were all eventually rescued by the CHESAPEAKE, which
delivered Romee et al. to ch'Rihan, waited for her to finish
her testimony, then sped out of Romulan space at best speed
to return to SB Delta.
