Fierce demon slaying goddess, embodiment of all the horrors of the human mind, is the protective diety of Nepal. According to legend, long time ago Taleju in the guise of a beautiful woman had befriended the king of Nepal. She would often come to play dice with him. One day their game was interrupted by a princess. Taleju, infuriated at been seen by another mortal, disappeared. After much pleading by the king, she agreed to guide him on the condition that he would no longer be able to see her. From that day her spirit is brought to life in the form of a young virgin girl, now known as a Kumari.
