Thought Of the
Week
Racism I have an extremly strong opinion on racism. All the people who know me in person know that. I dont understand the point of it basically. I can't see why people hate eachother because the color of their skin or their religion or something else as petty as that. It hurts me a lot to see people putting down others because of their color. I mean, why, why are there so many white power groups out there? And why are there groups out there who hate whites? What do those groups have against different races? I just recently saw the movie "American History X". It was extremly well put together and everything but also really sad. I mean, I wish it were all fiction because durring the movie, it made me realize that that kind of thing actually does happen. To me, no one deserves to be treated like that at all. However, I think the message of the movie was good. Which was change before its to late. not one person deserves to be treated badly because of their skin color. I feel so horrible for the people who lose their lives just because of the people who think that they are the "wrong" color. I have friends of all races, black, white, mexican, Indian, Oriental, etc. and whenever I hear people talking badly about others of different races it makes me mad because they're offending my friends who did absolutly nothing to them. I know racist people, and its not them I hate or anything, what I hate is the fact that they are racist. I just don't understand their point of view. I mean, people say they are racist because they were born into thinking that was the way to be, but what made people become racist in the first place? Way back in time, when there was slavery who decided that any race would be superior?? And also what I dont understand is groups like the Ku Klux Klan who say that God wanted it to be this way, and God didnt want the races to mix and they're only doing what God wants. To me I dont think that God wants people going around and hating others and commiting hate crimes. I dont see how members in the KKK can go around saying they are people of God, when all they do is have rallies against blacks and mexicans, etc. and commit crimes against the different races and talk badly about others. And one other thing about the KKK that bothers me is that they always wear those white sheets over their heads. If they are so proud of what they believe in, why not show their faces and show who they are instead of covering and hiding their identity. Because if they truly believed what they were doing was right, they wouldnt have to hide themselves like they do! I just cant see how people can have such hate in their hearts. I mean, is it really worth it to have all that hate inside of you every day?? What is so bad about having whites and blacks and mexicans and orientals and any other race living together? And I also know that there arent just white power groups out there, I know that there are blacks and mexicans, etc. who hate whites, etc. and I just dont understand any of it. I am white and I have nothing against any other race because they dont do anything to me, I mean to me everyone is basically the same and I dont know why people think that we are all so different because of the color of our skin. I know a lot of people out there agree with me on this issue and I know there are a lot of people out there who totally disagree with me on this. I dont mean to offend anyone out there who thinks differently than me, that isnt the point of this page. The point is to express my opinion on certain issues. And I would love if people can give me their point of view. If you disagree with what I think, let me know. Or if you agree with what I think, lemme know that too =) Anyways, my basic opinion on racism is that to me, its pointless and petty. So go ahead and lemme know what you think about this. email: smilesca@yahoo.com Death Penalty First off, I do not agree or support the death penalty at all. I think it is hypocritical and unconstitutional. The state tells us, dont kill, yet they can kill? How does that work? I think that the state needs to follow its own rules. Like that saying, two wrongs dont make a right. The eight amendment states, that cruel and unusual punishment is illegal and u cannot tell me that strapping someone in a chair in a little room and realising deadly gasses till they die is not cruel and unusual. Even more cruel and unusual is the electrical chair! Strapping someone down and sending electric shocks through their body, thats crazy! I know that the person being sentanced to death did something horrible, but thats no reason to kill them. Who are we to say who has to die and who lives, who gave us that right? Plus, killing them is giving them a way out of what they did. Once they're dead, they cant pay for it anymore, its done with. I think that a life sentance is more of a punishment, and it gives them time to think about what they did and feel remorsal for it and it can give them time to change too. I do believe that people can change. I dont believe people are as bad as the worst thing they have done. Stanley Williams, the founder of the weel known gang the Crips, is on death row right now. He has changed though. Sure, he did kill a lot of people and did a lot of wrong things, but look at him now, he has written and published many books for children and one for teens and adults on how to stay away from gangs and telling how sorry he is. I think we need to give people a second chance to change. I mean, i know what they did was horrible but i dont think killing them is the answer. How does that solve anything, how does that make them pay for what they did, because once they are dead they have stopped paying the price for the horrible thing they did. I think its unhumane. I think its a horrible thing to do and need to be outlawed. If anyone at all has any comments to make on what i think about certain things, pleas pleas please email me and i will post ur opinion on the topic too. Thanks!
