bulldog
"hey now bulldog, don't you rush in, with your eyes wild"

For the life of me, I never really totally understood the whole meaning of this song. I just love that first line.

First thought that comes to mind when hearing this song....it's definitely NOT your typical Counting Crows song. It doesn't really fit the loose, relaxed and subtle feel of "August and Everything After". Bulldog is a more "dry" song opening with a slide guitar. Listening to it, I'm reminded a little bit of Mercury, for some reason, but don't let that give you the idea that these songs are similar..they're not.

The way Adam sings this song is pretty admirable. Singing the verses in such a laid back manner and then just doing a complete 180 with the chorus singing it with a lot of determination.

There's a feeling of so much tension in this song, not so obvious in the verses, but it's there, and it just overflows in the chorus. I just love the way this song builds up from a silent and simple start, and just builds into a fury only to come crashing back down in the end.
