round
here Like many people, I wasn’t initially aware that Round Here was actually an original Himalayans song. So I was pretty excited to find out that a copy of the original version actually exists. I was even happier when I finally got it. Unlike the version we all know, the original starts with a single bass(or a guitar with some bassy effects) playing the familiar C-D-E-G chord pattern setting the tone for the actual song. Whereas the CC version was very relaxed, told like a beautiful narrative, this one is more urgent, faster, more furious. It’s a very tight version. When I was told it was faster than the CC version, I found that hard to picture, but after hearing it, it seemed perfect. The one thing I didn’t really like though was the middle part, the real cool funky portion in the CC version, is made extra loud, sounding like some bad heavy metal. But over all I have to commend them, these guys(the Himalayans) are a great band as well, musically that is, and this song stands strong on it’s own compared with the CC version. For a time, I considered it the DEFINITIVE Round Here, but now, after all the excitement, I wouldn’t actually go that far in praising this song.
