MTV Live from the 10 Spot

From reviews and critics everywhere, this second CD got a lot of bashing, basically what they all said was that of the two CD’s it was this that was the "weaker" one.  I’m not going to disagree with them though, but still, it is a great CD.

The 10 Spot CD took more time to get used to, unlike the first CD, this one intends to introduce the Crow’s "live band" aspect, for the most part, it’s brasher and harder to digest if you’re not an avid fan.  For my part, my only big complaint is the mixing and production of this CD.  The first few songs, seem badly mixed leaving the guitars of Dan Vickery too much in the background when it should be up there side by side with Duritz.  Adam on the other hand seems at times "out of breath" in most of the faster songs…but these are all minimal complaints on my part, for someone who gives 101% every show, it’s natural to get tired I guess.

As I said, this disc has grown on me with time.  The thing you have to do is look out for those "moments" which the Crows are famous for, like the little "extra" words and improvisations the band puts in to every song, and the personal flavour Adam puts in the slower songs which would normally seem out of place next to their louder numbers, but don’t here.  Just sit back and enjoy how the Crows carefully construct their live show with all the different and contrasting parts, it really is something.

I for one have never seen these guys live (and probably never will) so this is most likely the best thing I’ll ever get to actually seeing them.  So with that said, I just have to advice anyone to listen to this album at full volume with minimal lighting to get the full effect.  It’s not the same as actually being there I’m sure, but it’s okay enough by me.
