walkaways ----------------

walkaways Along with "Sullivan Street," this is one of my absolute favorites. Length of the song notwithstanding, "Walkaways" encompasses so much emotion and so much pain and so much carelessness that you can't help but love it. It's short, so forgive me, but I've got to enclose the lyrics: "I've
got to rush away,"
she said The simple strums of a guitar bring this living room melody to life as Adam adds new vocal arrangements to the song, showing us once more that he can croon with the best of them. The song of a man left in the dust once more by one he loves, it is the tale of a man giving up on the idea of ever finding his place in the world. A boring excuse, a lame excuse, and she's left him broken again -- but he's been broken before and it's not an unfamiliar feeling. In fact, he's getting used to it. He's gotten so comfortable in this feeling that he sees no point in walking away from it; why not hang out here for awhile? And with the closing of this song and Adam's voice plugging a few charities, we have the end of a brilliant live album set by the Crows, and like the MTV Live version of "Round Here"... it just wasn't long enough.
