recovering the satellites
"god we're so fucked up you and me"

Opens with the screams that are inevitable in a live performance, and then comes the opening chords of "Satellites," followed by a seemingly impossible rise in the audience's screams. And there we find Adam's voice slinking in between the people, weaving this tale of lost dreams.

I've always interpreted this song as such: couple of friends, big dreams, high expectations. One moves away and the other cheers for him, happy to see his friend getting out of this town.. but when things go wrong, back comes his friend, and he can't understand why the guy is trashing his dreams for the security of small-town boredom. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe not. But the whole reason many people never explain their songs is so as not to ruin what people get out of them; this is what I get.

I know a couple of satellites myself; and it's amazing to watch them slip away on their own, getting bigger and better.. watching them is like watching an action movie right before the hero saves the world -- for a moment you feel excited for them because everything's culminating in perfection; and then, inevitably, everything falls apart and you feel their pain. But you know if you were in their position, you'd be thankful for the chance to be out there, away from the ties of this limiting existence. Then they return and you don't get it. But what's to get? You want to slap them, to beat them up, to say "Look what you just threw away, you idiot!"

Before I start killing someone, I'll move on to the next song.. sorry, everyone. ;)
