Census records from 1842 and 1851 showed Patrick & Bridget
O'Neil living in Dalhousie Township. The college also has
records from St John the Baptist Catholic Church. That is where
I got the information on Patrick's marriages both to Margaret
McKittrick and Bridget Hart. I also have photo copies of
micro-film burial records for Bridget (November 21, 1859) and
Patrick (June 11, 1860). Patrick's burial record says "On the
11th June 1860 the body of Patrick O'Neil of Dalhousie was
interred in the cemetary of this Parish age Sixty years, In
presence of John Hart Patrick Hunt" Record is very difficult to
read.

Bridgett and Patrick were married in Watsons Corners, Larnark
County, Ontario. Their marriage record details their parents
name, poorly legible as they are. They died within 6 months of
one another, Bridget died assumed from childbirth due to the
proximity to James O'Neil's birth.
Since Thomas's obituary states that he came to this county at
the age of nine, which is 7 years after Bridget's death
(assuming she is his mother) it is further assumed that he
lived with his maternal relatives (Anna Hart?) in Lanark until
leaving for America with them. Since Thomas's obituary lists a
"half-brother" Joseph, who is actually the son of Ann (Hart)
Sandusky, it could be assumed that Ann was Patrick's wife but
there is no other data to substantiate this except for her
using the name of O'Neil for her wedding. This mystery is
assumed explained by Anna using this last name for purposes of
immigration of the orphan boys, her sisters sons. Since Thomas
and James lived in separate Hart households in 1870, it is
assumed by this writer (at this time) that Bridget is the
mother of James and Thomas and the Hart family all helped take
care of Bridgett's two boys after her untimely death in 1859,
and the death of her husband Patrick in 1860. Further research
is still needed since no birth records have yet been located
for Thomas or his brother James. The rational for Anna to use
the name O'Neil in her marriage is still odd, and this whole
family deserves a great deal of further study.
