Something Stinks! I Think It's
Kale.
From the southernmost city of Draago comes Duran, the only son of a widower fisherman, who spent more time on the lake than training his son to be a man. Instead, Duran found comfort from a middle aged woman, Triesta, who took on the young man as an apprentice to learn the Art of Sorcery. Duran savored the woman's love and instruction, and thus came to love the Art as well. Never being very comfortable around people, Duran felt relaxed only when fully immersed in the Art. Triesta fed his confidence, and arrogance, allowing him to believe that with his knowledge of the Art, he could be better than the common folk. His arrogance got him in trouble, for when his father returned from one fishing run and his son spoke out to him, he threw the boy out. Angered by his father and the "common thought" mentality of the old man, Duran sought to leave his hometown on a quest to discover a new form of the Art and take this place where he truly belonged, as one of the finest mages to ever walk in Tokiwa-Dai. With his meager belongings, he spent the last of his money on a horse and some rations to tide him over. He bid farewell to Triesta, and set with the traveling spellbook she helped him create, Duran started out into the southern swamps. After a lonely week of riding, Duran finally decided to find a companion other than his horse, and found a lizard who he bonded to as a familiar. He named him Asphalt. Finally out of the swamp, and narrowly escaping death several times, Duran realized that traveling in numbers would be the ideal situation. Unfortunately, the ideal traveling companions were few and far between in the unihabited land. Hoping to be safer in the mountains, Duran kept traveling south. Soon he met up with a group of brigands. While not his first choice of companions, Duran found he could stand them, most of them being lawful and neutral, even if they were evil. He presented himself as a somewhat powerful mage, and added "the Infamous" to the end of his name to gain more notoriety. The group took him in and then headed back to their lair, a ruined temple, to rest before preying on the next passing caravan. Follow for more information on Tokiwa-Dai. |
