CANA
( Madagascar )
( Grey-headed )

They
are the smallest lovebirds and the only ones that are not in continental
Africa, because they live in the island of Madagascar. They show sexual
dimorphism, having the cock a grey head and the hen a green one.
It`s
weight varies from 24 to 25g and its size is around 13-14cm.
They are very sensitive birds to cold temperatures, that is the reason why
it is not advisable to keep them outdoors under 10ºC
The breeding does not present any further complication and the egg-laying
is around 5-7 eggs. The incubation period lasts 21 days. The hens
transport the material needed for the construction of the nest under the
rump feathers, using it to cover the floor of the nest. Sometimes they
prefer to dig in the bottom of the nest instead of carrying material to
build it.
The chicks stay in the nest around 7 weeks and they have a yellowish beak
with a black base. The final colour appears when they are around 5 months
old.
The only mutation known is the pied one.
