Together with the lilianae lovebirds, the nigrigenis lovebirds are the
eye ring species with a smaller size. A special feature of these two
species is the fact that the colour of its iris is beige. Another
special feature is the lack of violet in the rump. Birds with violet in
the rump are easily identified as crossings with fischeri and personata,
being this the reason for the difficulty of obtaining pure birds. They
do not show sexual dimorphism.
