NIGRIGENIS

( Black-cheeked )

Nigrigenis verde

Together with the lilianae lovebirds, the nigrigenis lovebirds are the eye ring species with a smaller size. A special feature of these two species is the fact that the colour of its iris is beige. Another special feature is the lack of violet in the rump. Birds with violet in the rump are easily identified as crossings with fischeri and personata, being this the reason for the difficulty of obtaining pure birds. They do not show sexual dimorphism.

Its size is around 13 and 15cm, and its weight around 47 and 49g in the hens, and around 37 and 39g in the cocks.

The egg-laying consists of about 5 eggs and the incubation period lasts 22 days. The chicks leave the nest around de 5th and the 6th week, and the final colour is reached when they are about 6 months old.
