It
is one of the four eye ring species (personata, fischeri, lilianae and
nigrigenis), and it is also known as black, due to the black colour of
the head. Its size is around 16cm and its weight 48-55g, being the hens
always larger than the cocks. They do not show sexual dimorphism and it
is the second agapornis species with the largest number of specimens in
the world.
The breeding of personata is a bit more difficult than the roseicollis
one, but without any further complication. It is the species that built
its nest in a more elaborated way, making covered nests with material
carried in the beak by the hen
The egg laying is around 4-5 eggs, even reaching the number of 8. The
incubation period lasts 22 days. The chicks leave the nest when they are
5 or 6 weeks old.
